I own the Epson R-3880 printer which I purchased new in March 2012.

According to the counter, I have printed a total of 1743 pages which concidering that this is a professional printer does not seem a great deal to me. Unfortunately, the printer has developed a pretty serious fault.

It started about 4 months ago when my prints were suffering from horizontal lines and the nozzle check showed that the PK was not firing any ink onto the paper. I checked the status monitor and this registered that the PK was 73% full.

After removing the PK cartridge, i was surprised to see that it was empty, really empty. A bad chip I thought so I popped in a new cartridge, did a clean and away we went.

Fast forward, the same happened again.... surely not another bad chip I thought. Ordered a new cartridge from another source. Fast forward and the same happened again.

It turns out that the Ink Change System is not sealing properly and this is causing the status monitor to mis register and also the prints are receiving blobs of thick ink across them because the head is receiving more ink than it needs.

Spoke at great lengths with Epson who informed me that a repair is going to cost £540 a little disappointing to say the least.

At at the moment, I am in 2 minds wondering whether not to own a printer, and whether I would be frustrated not been able to print my own work.

Had lots of problems with printers, my Canon Pixma Pro 9000 was a great printer upto just getting out of its Guarantee then suddenly no ink would go onto the paper and the lights on the print head all whent out. Canon suggested changing the head which I did at a cost of just over £100 to no avail rang Canon they said it would cost £167 call out plus parts and VAT. This was the last straw for me. I now consentrate on producing the image in my software packages OnOne,Lightroom and Photoshop, then I send them off to ProAm in Bradford. The results from there standard service are fantastic with a price tag of £1.25 per print for a 12" x 16" its great value and delivery service is super fast to.
I agree it is sad not to directly print my own imges as this to me is the reward for the work I have put in to getting the best possible image from my labours. However, when I get my images back from proAm I am pritty impressed with the results and NO paper or ink problems.
They also do a ProPhoto service with a cost of £6.50 fr a 20" x16" Print C tye process which is also great value. Only two types of papers Glossy and Luster for the standard service but 270gs Satin Paper for Pro service all Fuji Premium paper

Hope you get sorted if not have a look at ProAm ProService Web site www.prophotoprints.co.uk or www.proamimaging.com

I would like to see some behind the scene shots for a still life setup especially the background that people use.

Black and White Seascape Long Exposure Photography With Doncaster Photographer Ian Barber. You will need to bring a digital camera that has the Bulb (B) setting, 10 or 16 stop ND filters, a tripod, cable release and spare batteries. The advantages of using 10 and 16 stop ND filters means that even during the day, we can obtain shutter speeds of minutes which is perfect for creating the silky smooth water and streaking clouds ( weather permi...

Introduction
Where Do I Live:
I live in the town of Doncaster which has been my home for over 40 years.

Doncaster is situated in the Northern part of the UK approximately 200 miles North of London.

My goal is a simple one and that is to produce Fine Art Black and White Photography. I have to admit though that when I started out in photography, Fine Art Photography in Black and White was something which I initially found difficult to learn.

In my youth, I would spend hours looking at fine art black and white photographs from what I now know to have been produced by the the great masters of black and white photography.

It was these black and white fine art photographs that inspired me and made me realise and understand what fine art black and white photography was all about.

The more I looked at pictures of  fine art black and white photography, I knew that someday I would want to become a fine art black and white photographer aiming to produce classic images in black and white.

Websites:
My website contains a small selection of some of my work

Digital Black and White Website:
I also host and maintain www.digitalblackandwhite.co.uk where I try to post information that will help others in mastering digital black and white photography.
