Tonight's dinner: Boeuf Bourguignon with garlic, chive and parmesan mash, plus steamed tenderstem broccoli.

Absolutely amazing stuff.

If the discovery of gravitational waves represents one step forward for humanity, this is definitely two steps back...

I hate to say I called it, but this kind of shit really annoys me, despite it being utterly predictable. The Paris accord isn't worth the paper it's written on, not while we've got people who will block any kind of meaningful commitment to act on climate change just because they want to protect their piece of the pie.
President Obama's plans to regulate emissions of carbon dioxide from US power plants are stalled by the Supreme Court.

One for +Michael Birke. Has your palate ever experienced Petit Verdot on its travels around the world's wine?

I started using it for cooking (bolognese tonight) after noticing it on offer in Sainsburys, but I've developed a bit of a taste for it, so more of it goes into the cook than into the cooking!

Not really! I only had it as 8-10% or so blend partner in Montes "Purple Angel", a mostly Carmenere wine.

It's funny that "Petit" Syrah and Petit Verdot are actually among the boldest, most tannic and alcoholic wines.... :)

http://winefolly.com/tutorial/the-spectrum-of-boldness-in-red-wines-chart/

It's a difficult grape to grow and like some others very susceptible to phylloxera, this is why it's gone down in popularity. I know no single French single varietal wine, it's always blended there.

I have quite some Australian wines here, but no Petit Verdot. Maybe after California an exploration of tannic wines, though I wonder how the Petit Verdot tastes. Isn't it overly tannic?!

I don't know what's been more surprising this afternoon: Leicester stuffing Manchester City, or me enjoying going mining in Elite: Dangerous...

A Sidewinder fustercluck at tonight's Conway City Fight Club. It's one way of testing out bi-weave shield generators, I suppose!

That Einstein bloke was a bit clever, wasn't he?
For the first time, scientists have detected tiny, rhythmic distortions in space and time - gravitational waves - predicted by Einstein 100 years ago.

If I'd known I would have worn my Periodic Table tie today. Opportunity missed...

Happy birthday to the father of the periodic table!
Today I'd like to wish chemistry genius Dmitri Mendeleev a happy birthday; he's 182 today!! :D Mendeleev was born on the 8th of February 1834 in Verkhnie Aremzyani, Tolbolsk, Siberia. He made vast...

After a successful day's mining yesterday, I made enough money to reconfigure my fleet, sacrificing my Imperial Courier to re-buy Fluffy, who (as you can see from the pictures) is still great for giving laser hugs to power plants.

My fleet now consists of:

Fluffy for combat - http://coriolis.io/outfit/fer_de_lance/06B5A4A4A6A4A3C1e1b1b1b1b0004040404044a2b2b2724.AwRj4yrI.EwBjEZJSdmxMIA==?bn=Fluffy

Cutty Snark for Imperial Tourist Transportation - http://coriolis.io/outfit/imperial_clipper/06C6C5A5A6A5A4C1e1e27270004040406B1030302020124.AwRj4yrI.IwBjwkO6wJmHEc5A?bn=Cutty%20Snark%20Trader

And Golden Annie for mining - http://coriolis.io/outfit/anaconda/08C7C6A5D8B8D5C1f1f1f1f2m2m191900040404040404040605B105CeCePe031v0324.Iw18ZlA=.IwBjwkOmCYclKMSyA===?bn=Golden%20Annie%20Miner

It's going to take a while to earn the cash to finish A-rating them all, but other than needing to pick up another Asp to go exploring with, I'm quite proud of my little fleet.

+Adam Culf same here - i have the Reinforced Bulkheads right now  so which takes me half-way to the military but I'm going to need around 26 million credits before I make that step up.

It will be the last step though for Anarchick's fighter - everything else is already A-Spec.

I guess I could look to see if I downgrade a few things, if it'll free up enough credits to get the Military hull.... didn't think of that before writing this reply.  I seldom venture outside of LTT 4961 so do I need to keep the top-spec FSD installed, for example.  I will review the build and ponder what I can do.

Thanks for being the instigator of reflection! :o)

My boy Vardy is at it again.

I'm giving a lift to a colleague tomorrow (who is currently on crutches and can't drive), who just happens to be a Liverpool fan. Do I play it cool or be insufferably smug? It's going to be a hard call...
