screen is somehow messing up unicode for me. If I echo "👏" outside of it then it displays fine (so I have the fonts installed and my locale is fine), but inside a screen started shell (even one with `screen -U', which I think is my default anyway - info confirms it's in UTF-8 mode) then I get "�".
