Krav Maga and Film

#Kravmaga  and martial arts in general, has always been a huge part of the film industry–mostly because it’s entertaining and engaging to watch. In addition to the entertainment aspect, many actors and actresses have realized how much they enjoy Krav Maga and have even left their previous self defense courses to opt for a Krav-Maga-oriented program. Of course, we have yet to see many major films defined by Krav Maga such as some of the earlier Kung Fu movies, but we have seen an increase in Krav Maga knowledge over the years.

IKM New York is now offering an amazing opportunity for women in NYC to gain self defense skills!

Self-defense experts Tsahi Shemesh and Dawn Nadeaw has created this unique Self Defense workshop that demonstrates how women can protect themselves in realistic scenarios;
 
Fighting in the gym with a sport attire will give a great sense of how to use your body and mind to protect yourself. 
But, you need to be able to defend yourself on your way back from work or on your way to a party, in street clothes and high heels. 
 
We created this amazing and unique workshop to let you feel the difference between the gym, and the street.

Summer Camp Session 2

Our kid's summer camp aims to fulfill all the main principles of Krav Maga but are tailored to fit the specific needs and attributes of children. Encouraging perseverance and focus is one of the key goals of our program, rather than unnecessary violence. With enrollment now open for our second session starting in late July, there has never been a better time for kids to start learning valuable self defense techniques.

The first summer camp session lasted from June 24 - June 28, 2013 and successfully taught a group of students important lessons and reactions to a variety of defense-necessary scenarios.

Introducing Imi Lichtenfeld 

The culmination of historic events that led to the creation of NYC Krav Maga can be pinpointed to the birth and life of Imi Lichtenfeld. Born in Budapest in 1910, Imi was raised in a quite eclectic atmosphere. During the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, there was much clout for the well educated, but also individuals who were in great shape. His father was a huge influence on the development of his skill sets of which eventually led to the inception of Krav Maga. Samuel, Imi’s father, worked at a traveling circus where he met people who worked in trapeze and martial arts and loved to teach young Imi everything they could. By the 1940s, Imi was working directly with the State of Israel making plans for fighting tactics that eventually led to the creation of Krav Maga.

Measured Breathing, Measured Punches

Most forms of exercise, from running to Krav Maga to yoga, place immense focus on breathing. Even though it’s a basic, essential part of physical activity, many tend to let their breath go on autopilot during exercise. This is highly dangerous: shallow, uneven breathing causes weak and unsteady form. The muscles at work fail to receive the oxygen they need.

This can make a world of difference in self defense courses and situations. Your muscles need to be at peak performance in order to properly subdue your assailant, ensuring ample time for escape. Be deliberate with your breaths: breathe with your diaphragm, and consciously synch your breaths with the movement of your body so that your muscles are sufficiently supplied.
