The Kohli Center on Intelligent Systems (KCIS) was established at International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad in July 2015 with CSR funding from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Foundation to give a fillip to research, teaching and entrepreneurship in the area of Intelligent Systems. The Kohli Research Block was inaugurated on January 16th, 2017 by ShriK T Rama Rao, Minister for IT E&C along with Shri N Chandrasekaran, CEO of TCS, Shri F C Kohli, Former Deputy Chairman, TCS and Prof Raj Reddy, Chairman, IIIT Hyderabad and Moza Bint Nasser University Professor of Computer Science and Robotics at the Carnegie Mellon University were present on the occasion along with other leaders from the academia and industry.
The Kohli Centre on Intelligent Systems (KCIS) aims at amplifying research in the broad areas of Intelligent Systems. The Centre has active research groups in Natural Language Processing, Information Retrieval, Speech Processing, Computer Vision, Image Processing, Machine Learning, Cognitive Science, Data Sciences & Analytics, Robotics, etc.

IIIT Hyderabad hosted Dr. Nandini Sundar of DSE, DU who delivered a talk on ‘Not human, not animal’: does India have room for the adivasi? In her talk, she explained in detail about the perils of the tribal population of our country. She attempted to break stereotypes on this subject. Dr. Nandini emphasised on the wide diversity of experiences faced by the scheduled tribes, state policies and the impact of current developmental models on the human rights, livelihood and well-being of the scheduled tribes. In her talk, she also examined the history of sociological engagement with the scheduled tribes.

Prof. P.J. Narayanan, Director, IIIT Hyderabad received the prestigious INAE Fellowship at New Delhi on December 9th, 2016. The Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) honours Indian and Foreign nationals who are elected by "peer" committees in recognition of their personal achievements in "Engineering" which are of exceptional merit and demonstrated distinctive eminence in the new and developing fields of technology.

IIIT Hyderabad hosted Microsoft Academia Accelerator for this year's first Code.Fun.Do. There was an enthusiastic participation by IIIT-ians where in 50 teams submitted their projects. Team Autocorrect won this year's Code.Fun.Do and team YFI were first runners-up.

IIIT Hyderabad hosted a talk on 'Scalable Multiagent Planning using Probabilistic Inference' by Dr Akshat Kumar. In his talk, he talked about the how automated planning is a key building block of artificial intelligence. He highlighted close connections between multiagent planning and probabilistic inference in graphical models.He also showed how different multiagent models such as distributed constraint optimization and decentralized MDPs can be reformulated as probabilistic inference problems.

Dear All,
We're pleased to share that IIIT Hyderabad is now the National Coordinator Institute for the entire PLO (Round 1 & 2) from 2017 to 2020. The International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL) is one of 12 International Science Olympiads and has been held annually since 2003. Each year, teams of bright young students from around the world gather and test their minds against the world's toughest puzzles in language and Linguistics.
Round 1 or the open round will be held on January 22nd, 2017 across various cities in India. The top ranking candidates of Round 1 will then be invited to participate in Round 2, which is a week-long residential orientation-cum-selection camp to be held around May/June 2017 at IIIT Hyderabad. The top 8 candidates from Round 2 will represent India in the 15th International Linguistics Olympiad to be held in Dublin from July 31st - 4th Aug, 2017.

PLO Round 1 happens in two categories
Junior: Students currently studying in class 6th, 7th and 8th MUST compete in the Junior category.
- Senior: Students currently studying in class 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th MUST compete in the Senior category.

IIIT Hyderabad hosted a talk on 'A Self-Stabilizing Minimal-Grouping Algorithm' by Prof. Ajoy Datta of University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He presented a silent self-stabilizing minimal-grouping algorithm for an arbitrary network where the processes have unique ID's. He also talked about a new technique to compose self-stabilizing algorithms, called loop composition. He used this technique to design a silent self-stabilizing minimal k-grouping algorithm for an arbitrary network where the processes have unique ID's.
