We often get asked for recommendations on how to protect a book's jacket. Of course, the jacket was produced initially to protect the book, nowadays, however it's the most valuable part so we protect that too. Our answer is to choose Mylar WITHOUT paper backing. 50 microns is our preferred thickness as it gives a slightly more luxurious feel than the thinner stuff. We don't recommend paper-backed Mylar because it affects the folds at the spine and fore-edge making the jacket loose. Take a look at the picture for an example. We remove Mylar for photography, so it's not the kind of thing that would be obvious until you come to sell. Oh, and I'd recommend removing shrink-wrap too, it can bow slipcases, damage gilt, and let's face it, these are books, take a look at the bloody thing and enjoy it!

Ok, so I am pretty certain I have two of these signatures identified. The other three I'm not sure of. Any ideas?

We're resurrecting our 'first pages' series, wherein we post pictures of the first pages of books on our cataloguing stack (and often enough from our reading stack). This one from Douglas Adams' renowned comic novel The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy. #douglasadams #dontforgetyourtowel

Detail from a John Howe cover illustration for Robin Hobb's Shaman's Crossing. We're big Robin Hobb fans here. She's an excellent writer and lovely person. #robinhobb #fantasy

We were recently asked to send a photo of the opening lines of Wild Swans at Coole by Yeats so thought I'd share, as it's a glorious opening. https://buff.ly/2q25nl8

Detail from Harlan Ellison's Flintlock, published by Charnel House. https://buff.ly/2JdyTNZ
Ellison's screenplay for his unproduced Derek Flint film. Flint was a comic parody of James Bond. Flint's watch to the board to mimic the first issue of Fleming's Man with the Golden Gun.

Now, if you remember this then you're probably a little older than me. A generation of boys and girls grew up with this series. Most copies found nowadays though are from libraries, and well read (as they should be). This copy probably from the shelves of some child who either hated Tony Hale, had too many books (if such thing is possible) or discovered television. #juvenile #sciencefiction https://buff.ly/2pZqULh

Neal Stephenson's excellent Snow Crash. Ten years ago (yep, it's been a decade already) Subterranean Press released this lovely edition. One of Andrews and Rennison's 100 Must-Read SF novels, and it's certainly a ride.

So here's a fun one. This DVD box-set turned up in a recent collection of Centipede Press books we bought. The Hyraxia team aren't a huge Pete Walker fan, but a quick look online suggests it's a sought after set. If you're interested, make us an offer.
