You Could House Your Money in This Fund - Consistent followers of the ETF Talk will recognize this week’s return to the world of real estate investment trusts (REITs). A REIT is a company that invests in real estate and gains revenue by renting it out to other organizations. REITs are required by law to distribute a large portion of their profits to shareholders, so they tend to pay solid dividends. One method of investing in this space is through Vanguard REIT ETF (VNQ... http://ow.ly/2WzFoX

Hey, Pretty Boy: Do You Actually Know What’s In The News? - When “NBC Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams crashed and burned over all the tall tales he had told, there must have been mirth in the hallways at ABC. In the highly competitive world of TV news, finding the right anchor is crucial to a network’s brand. After running through a few pretenders, ABC had finally filled the iconic Peter Jennings’ seat on “World News Tonight” just months earlier with David Muir. ABC... http://ow.ly/2WtDzl

Every night this putz does a weather story but often times misses the real news. "today it snowed in Colorado which is seeing an almost record amount of snow for a winter day....in other news, two cities were nuked" or some other crap like that. We get it Davie, you're a gobal warming (climate change) zealot. Get over it and get on with the news.

Gentrify! - No matter what you do, modern liberals will tell you you’re wrong. For decades, liberals complained that American society is segregated because rich, white people don’t want to live in ethnically mixed neighborhoods. Sometimes, liberals had a point. From the 1930s to 1960s, as rich white people moved into New York City, urban planner Robert Moses got city bureaucrats to condemn and destroy busy black neighborhoods. The city called the neighborhoods “blighted... http://ow.ly/2Wr0Bv

What’s Gone Wrong With Democracy? - The Economist magazine recently published “What’s gone wrong with Democracy … and what can be done to revive it?” The suggestion is that democracy is some kind of ideal for organizing human conduct. That’s a popular misconception. The ideal way to organize human conduct is to create a system that maximizes personal liberty for all. Liberty and democracy are not synonymous and most often are opposites. In Federalist Paper No. 10, James... http://ow.ly/2WnwO1

Petraeus Puts the Icing on Bibi’s Iran Cake - Don’t just rely on Benjamin Netanyahu’s passionate advice to Congress on his way to reelection that Iran is our archenemy. Now we have the counsel of retired general David Petraeus, who gave a remarkable interview this week to the Washington Post. Petraeus agrees with Netanhayhu: Iran, not ISIS, is the real enemy. His message: “I would argue that the foremost threat to Iraq’s long-term stability and the broader regional equi... http://ow.ly/2Wg1sz

A Simple Strategy for Tracking the ‘Big Catalysts’ - During the many years that I’ve been investing and analyzing industries to determine which stocks will be winners in the coming months and years, I’ve learned a number of things. One of them is to pay attention to the calendar. It may sound pretty simple, but I would argue that many people tend to overlook the calendar as a source of catalysts that can either propel a stock or call option that you hold significantly h... http://ow.ly/2WtjiZ

Honoring the Legacy of Singapore’s ‘George Washington’ - On Monday, the world lost one of the most prominent, controversial and arguably most effective political leaders of the last 60 years, Singapore’s founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. He passed away peacefully at the Singapore General Hospital at the age of 91. Lee Kuan Yew wasn’t just your ordinary garden-variety politician. In terms of his impact on a newly independent state of Singapore, he was more of a “Foun... http://ow.ly/2Wqa9L

Is the Market Ready to Blossom? - By Bryan Perry, new Eagle Financial Publications Investment Expert The latest Fed policy statement was like music to the ears of stock market participants. In sum, Fed Chair Janet Yellen told attendees at a packed post-Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting news conference that the Fed will move on interest rates when it simply is time to do so and that the U.S. central bank won’t be held to a timeline. That’s all the bulls needed... http://ow.ly/2Wmwwp

I hope so. While I keep noticing my IRA, doing better. My stocks are doing better. The economy seems to be growing, I have yet to see any of this in my community. Block-after city-block of business space for lease. Businesses closing. High unemployment. Low-wage jobs. I just do not notice what President Obama claims to be an improving economy.

S&P Investing on the Cheap - This week’s ETF Talk returns us to the realm of large American companies. There are a variety of ways to track the S&P 500 in exchange-traded fund (ETF) form, and this week’s featured fund offers a similar approach to those we have highlighted in recent weeks. But this one is a Vanguard fund, Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO). Since we last examined this fund in November, the big picture of the market has shifted. The S&P has been in an overall upt... http://ow.ly/2WfpSv

Just What the Money Doctor Ordered - “For decades health spending has grown faster than the economy as a whole. But the growth in America’s health-care spending is slowing.” – The Economist (March 7, 2015) The Economist recently suggested that America’s out-of-control spending on healthcare – 17% of gross domestic product (GDP), higher than any other nation – is about to slow down. But that prediction doesn’t mean healthcare investing will slow down. Why? Because of sev... http://ow.ly/2WcoWt
