Nottingham city, which lies in the East Midlands region of the United Kingdom, is attempting to entice Indian companies to look beyond London as their base of operations by offering free office space for up to 2 years.
Nat Puri, a Punjab born businessman and Honorary Ambassador of Nottingham said, “I’ve found that Nottingham is a better place to live and do business than London, and is clearly more cost effective. I came here by accident and have stayed here ever since. I now want to help ensure others from India can do the same.”
He also went on to say, “Nottingham City Council’s offer of a 250 square meter office space in the very heart of the city centre is completely cost free for up to 2 years. This should hopefully be the first step to encouraging Indian companies to explore the opportunities here for themselves.”
Chris Henning, Nottingham City Council’s Director of Economic Development, added, “Are hope is to provide a kind of ‘soft landing’ for Indian Companies. Our city currently offers a very attractive investment platform for Indian Businesses; due to its fast-growing innovate businesses, academic versatility, and location at the very heart of the UK, providing strong gateway opportunities to trade with Europe.”
The 2 year free office space forms part of an ongoing Indian strategy led by Nottingham City Council. This also involves organisations such as the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Means Business.
The strategy itself aims to connect India by developing investment opportunities to the region and to also encourage Nottingham based companies to also explore business opportunities in India, which includes academic and cultural links.
“It is great to see that Nottingham has such a broad Indian strategy. India now has one of the strongest economies in the world, and there is tremendous potential that can be made into concrete results,” said Virander Paul, deputy high commissioner of India to the UK.
He also made an offer to the University of Nottingham to collaborate with the Indian Consul General’s office in Birmingham to establish an India-UK co-funded chair of Indian studies. This will be a short term exchange of faculty members between the two countries.
Shuchita Sonalika, Head of CII’s UK operations, said, “There is a renewed interest from Indian companies to venture out and look at opportunities in lesser known areas of the UK. Nottingham is the first stop under CII’s new RoadtropUK initiative to strengthen regional business opportunities.”
Tara Naidu, Air India UK regional director, added, “Air India is looking to expand its services in the UK, and the East Midlands airport is a potential opportunity for new flights if we see trade expanding in the region.”
Nottingham, famous for its link to the English folk legend Robin Hood, is among the UK's core cities that has the highest proportion of employment in knowledge-based services. #officespace #nottingham
