I've bootstrapped the previous 17 companies I started. I've always built lifestyle companies and as long as my lifestyle was good, rapid growth wasn't an objective. I'm in the process of forming a new company and this time I want a growth company. Since I have no experience with VC, I want to have enough knowledge about equity distribution to be able to discuss it intelligently with my lawyers. I've looked at the Founder's Pie Calculator and that has helped me with splitting the founders' share. Where I'm struggling is what percent of total equity should initially go to founders, how much to set aside for directors, advisors, and others that I haven't thought about?
I'd appreciate links to good articles, books, or other advice.
