Ok location is great! Hotel is nicely updated and modern. Now for the bad...rooms are too small, no views just buildings, bathroom has barn slider door(cheap and stupid), only gives you two main towels, asked for more towels(took two phone calls to front desk and 40 mins), rude check-in service, over priced food for room service and restaurant(20 dollars for eggs Benedict and small orange juice, not including tip) Never again.

I had an amazing stay at this wonderful hotel. The plaza is a gorgeous hotel and our room was absolutely beautiful. The bedding smelled fresh and was soft and comfortable. The room was impeccable and the staff was eager to find me a razor and toothbrush upon my request. The front-desk people are away a fair bit and that frustrated me once when I was trying to get one of them to speak to me. Otherwise the entire experience of this hotel is impeccable and everyone should stay here. Also, it is right in the heart of downtown Berkeley which is magnificent.

This is by far my favorite hotel in Northern California. I have stayed here well over 5 times. It is very fun and the bar downstairs is very nice and vibrant. The rooms are very clean and most importantly the bed are new.

Really central location. We asked for a Bay view room and they gave us some trouble about it but finally gave us the room. They neglected to mention that the bay view was a view of the rooftops on the buildings next door. We did not think the room was worth the price. Nevertheless when we spoke to the manager about our concerns we were graciously accommodated and were very thankful.

I stayed from February 7 to 10 and I enjoyed it very much. It's an old refurbished hotel with a lot of character. Free WiFi was fast enough to get my business done, but they are offering an even faster connection for a fee. The biggest asset of the hotel is the employees. Very helpful, unobtrusive, and infectiously cheerful. I would recommend this hotel to all my friends.

Renovated with a modern feel. It's convenient to downtown, with nearby bars, restaurants, and public transit options. There's no free parking, but a self-park deck ($) is across the street. Free WiFi, coffee maker (Keurig with K-cups), friendly service, you know, the usual for a high-end hotel (you're paying for it, after all). As for the downsides, the room was a bit cramped (we had 3 in a room), there was no dresser, and closet space was minimal, though oddly, the bathroom was still large. Speaking of the bathroom, ours didn't really have a door, just a loose barn-style sliding door panel with frosted glass. No thanks. Given the room arrangement, a pocket door would've been a much better choice. Also, our room faced the main street, which made it a bit noisy at night. Be aware that electricity to the rooms is only activated once you insert your room key - don't expect your devices to charge when you are gone.

Located right downtown, this historic (but renovated) mission-style hotel was actually the first in Berkely (opened in 1910). It has a nice restaurant inside, but is walking distance to lots of places nearby for easy exploring. Despite the corporate ownership, I always like staying in a boutique hotel over a major chain. They have your standard amenities like a gym, a bar, a restaurant, and free WiFi. Self-parking is next door, but they are really close to public transportation via BART which is what I recommend if you plan on visiting San Francisco.
