Hooked on Heat (www.hookedonheat.com) is my collection of recipes for the modern Indian cook. It is a food memoir of sorts and each recipe is accompanied by a little slice of my life.
I am a freelance food writer, recipe developer and cooking instructor. As a food consultant, I also help people create a meal plan to suit their needs, lifestyle and taste. I spend time teaching them how to shop, organize and cook for an Asian themed meal. I give modern Asian cooking demonstrations, both privately at home as well as various cooking studios around town. Not only do I try to simplify traditional cooking methods without compromising on taste, but I also love to experiment with different flavours and infuse those from the East and West. My menus are inspired by classic flavours and dressed up to suit our modern tastes.
My cookbook, "Knack Indian Cooking" was published Jan 2010, and my second one, "500 Indian Dishes" came out earlier this year. I’ve also written for various online and print media, including the Christian Science Monitor, The Mississauga News and Alive magazine.
My cooking philosophy is simple: If you're hungry, then cook! Cooking is not not rocket science, and once you get past the hesitation of playing with various spices and flavours, the kitchen can be a delightful place!
I started the blog on a whim one morning in 2005 while I was interning for an ad agency. It was very slow day and I found myself drooling over many food blogs while trying to kill time. While I was completely enthralled by what I saw, it surprised me that I couldn't find any that demystified Indian cooking. So I took the plunge, and wrote my first post, then and there!
