Arriving at the inn, late at night, the night manager kept peering out of the window between the slats of the shades. It was spooky and strange. That was the first issue. Then the moment you walk into this hotel the pungent rotting smell of unsanitary conditions is overpowering. My mother who is 65 immediately whispered to me that she couldn't stay in those conditions. Speaking with the night manager who only spoke broken English or perhaps he was drunk that night, was a nightmare in itself and required me to repeat everything 3-4 times including spelling out the name several times. Quickly told him that we needed to cancel and left. The next day spoke with the owner, Theresa Henkelmann, who said that she did not have a problem refunding the deposit but that she didn't know how to do it and would have her manager call me the next day. The next day, received no call back. Called again and spoke with the manager, Renata, who was a completely horrid person and refused to the process the refund and then in spite said she was now charging the full rate for a no show. It's really unbelievable the lengths that some businesses will go to in order to abuse a customer. Please avoid this place like the plague.

Had a lovely breakfast. Lots of delicious coffee. But the meal, while tasty, wasn't filling.

I've heard about this restaurant so I decided to bring a friend and the food was beyond my expectations. The desserts were so good especially the cherry dessert. The mussels in that sauce is so great and flavorful. When you're in GreenwichCT you have to try this restaurant. You won't be disappointed.

Outstanding food, atmosphere and a great experience. Henkelmann is a stellar example of a classical 5 star French chef.

This restaurant is in the prime location for all things lovely. I was in the area shopping at Saks (can you believe this is the only Saks in CT?!?!?! And I'm not talking Saks Off 5th). Anywho, I wanted to grab a bite for lunch so decided to dine here. This restaurant had very good service and the atmosphere was very welcoming. The staff was very friendly and I was treated very well. Although I dined alone, my overall check came up to about a Benjamin Franklin. So rule of thumb, this is not the place for you if you are on a budget. I will definately make my way back here when I am in town to shop again.

Fabulously paced meal and appropriately attentive staff. (Not overt, but quick and there when you need them.) Still a great meal and well prepared.

Best service, great Duck, beautiful house!

Homestead Inn - Thomas Henkelmann We are honored and actually pretty giddy to have been named one of the Top 10 Best French Restaurants in America!

Please help us spread the word and share with your friends.
In July 1793, Jean Gilbert Julien opened what some consider America’s first restaurant. Located in Boston and different from the many taverns that dotted the city, Julien’s The Restorator was intended to restore health.
