The past week we've been working on a Civics and Government Unit. We've covered the 3 branches of government and the structure of state government, the responsibilities of the federal, state and local governments, why we pay taxes and what kind of taxes there are, as well as some basic civics information (with the card set you see in the photo below on the left).  This is a 40-page packet.

This week for science, we took a few days to learn about photosynthesis. I talked about our activities and shared the notebook pages I made for the kids over on the blog.

A Study of Cells Unit: Cell organelles and their function, how cell theory developed, the types of cells (eukaryotes vs prokaryotes), animal vs plant cells, cells of the body and more!

This packet is appropriate for upper elementary and middle school (my kids are 11, 9, 7) and it covers the organelles and their function, animal vs. plant cells. We also talked quite a bit about how proteins are made (on a kid-level that is!).
Our packet includes 35 pages or so of cell worksheets and activities. Enjoy! ~Liesl

Today we have some new and updated resources to share with you. Over the weekend, I put together a page that has some of the books we use a lot in our homeschool. And I also updated our long list of free homeschool and teaching resources. Hope you find something useful there!

Math Activity ideas for 2-3 year olds, letter activities, phonics-pre-reading games, science experiments to do with young kids, arts and crafts, how to teach handwriting, Montessori activities, and much more.

Viking, Norse Myths & Woodburning Craft:
We had SO much fun last week for this first section of our Middle Ages unit. If your kids haven't tried woodburning, you might give this a try. My kids loved it! And it involved dragons and fun designs!

Free World Biomes Pin Map -- If you are studying animal habitats or the world biomes (rain forest, desert, savanna/grasslands, deciduous and boreal forests, tundra etc.) you might want to make your own pin map. There's a new post over about it on the blog today. I fixed some links that were not working (after my move from Parents in Jan.)
