It really makes me miserable to have to watch my kids when they don’t feel good and colds are one of the most common of illnesses our kids get. But there are simple home remedies to soothe your child and give them a little relief when they have a cold.

We can’t prevent our kids from catching a cold, they are bound to catch the bug but there are things we can teach our kids in the hopes of preventing colds from happening so often. The simple act of washing hands often throughout the day can lessen the amount of germs they pick up thus lessening the chance of infecting themselves with a viral infection.

After a busy day, I love the warm calming effect tea has on me. I also make some of my own tea blends and even grow some of the herbs in my garden.

If you're just getting into making your own teas, I have 5 easy and delicious herbal teas you can make at home and sip anytime. These recipes are perfect for the beginner as they only include a few ingredients.

Here is a lavender tea recipe, as you can see it only has 2 ingredients, easy, right?

Fresh Flower Tea

    2 – 3 tablespoons fresh Lavender flowers
    2 cups of boiling water

Add lavender to water then cover and steep for 10 minutes.

Dried Flower Tea

1 1/ 2 teaspoons of dried lavender flowers
    2 cups boiling water

Add lavender to water. Steep for 10 to 15 minutes.

If you want, you can sweeten to taste with honey or lemon.

If you’re a smoker, it’s not just hard on you; it’s hard on everyone around you that does not smoke. Smoking hurts everyone!

It is said that 90 percent of people that start smoking, start before the age of 18. If you have kids do you really want to be sending them the message that smoking is OK?

If you are a smoker you know how addicting it is. If you are a smoker and have tried quitting, you know how hard it is to kick the habit. Many ex-smokers have had success using patches, gums, hypnosis and prescribed medications but this isn’t the case for everyone. And there is no doubt that many ex-smokers have quit cold turkey having much determination to live a healthier life not only for themselves but their families as well.

If you are kicking the habit by going cold turkey, using the patch or some other means and are looking for some natural ideas to help, here are a few things to try. You can succeed.

Juicing or Blending. Is One Better than the Other?

There are quite a few people I know who don’t get enough fruits and vegetables in their diet for one reason or another. But fruits and vegetables (of all colors) are packed with vitamins, minerals and a whole lot of nutrients that will help you feel more energized and help keep you healthy.

Juicing uses a machine to extract the juice (water and nutrients) of the fruit or vegetable and leaves behind the pulp. Blending is using a blender or Vitamix to pulverize all of your fruits and vegetables, so there is no leftover pulp.

Read more: http://goo.gl/5mMnzu

Juicing also discards fiber that is hard to digest and as fiber is filling, some may find themselves hungry more quickly. Juicing is also absorbed more quickly into the blood stream which can cause a spike in blood sugar levels.

Home Remedies for Tonsillitis

If you or one of the kids has had Tonsillitis, you know how uncomfortable it can be and that it can bring you down for many days.

Symptoms can range from mild to severe and consist of: a very sore throat, chills, fever, headache, sore neck, stomach ache, fatigue and more.

It’s important to drink plenty of warm to cold liquids (warm broth, water, tea) and stay hydrated throughout the day and get plenty of rest.

Read more: http://goo.gl/Ruytkc

Using a vaporizer in your bedroom at night or while you’re napping will help keep moisture in the air so your throat isn’t bothered by the dry night air. You can also add a few drops of an essential oil such as lavender or eucalyptus.

Home Remedies for Reducing Stress Around the Holidays

The Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays will soon be here once again. For many of us these holidays can be stressful. Keeping the house clean, social activities, work parties, shopping and more shopping.

One of the things I like to do is step outside and walk for at least 30 minutes a day. It's a great way to destress and relax my mind. Because I know how busy I'll be, I try and book any doctor or dentist appointments before the holidays, it's one less thing I'm trying to juggle.

I also use my diffuser more often, there are many blends I like, here's one you might like too:

• 2 drops Clove Essential Oil
• 2 drops Cinnamon Essential Oil
• 2 drops Ginger Essential Oil
• 1 drop Wild Orange Essential Oil

This is a warm spicy blend with a hint of orange, it reminds me of baking around the holidays.

Read more simple ways you can reduce stress around the holidays: http://goo.gl/swI0qb

Take time to laugh and enjoy those around you, try and stick to a schedule so you don't get burned out.

Vitamin D

Winter is just a hop, skip and jump away and with shorter days and bundling ourselves up to go outside, are we going to get enough vitamin D?

For many of us probably not from the sun which is where the best source of vitamin D comes from – the midday sun. What is vitamin D good for?

It’s important to help prevent many conditions such as heart disease, Alzheimer’s, maintaining strong and healthy bones and teeth in kids and adults.

Read more: https://goo.gl/jlwPDU

Vitmain D comes from sunlight but because of the concerns of skin cancer, many of us don’t get enough from the sun. Other forms of vitamin D come in supplement form and the foods we eat. If you’re concerned if you have enough vitamin D, talk to your doctor and with a simple blood test you’ll know.

Labels are confusing when it comes to food expiration dates - Sell By, Best if Used By, Use By – What? Do these dates mean we need to toss food out on this date? Does it mean stores need to take a product off the shelf on this date? Is it only indicating freshness and quality of a product?

This Introduction to Food Expiration Dates might help answer a few of these questions as well as other factors that can cause food to spoil before an expiration date.

Food won't last forever but I don't like being wasteful, most things really do last beyond the Sell By, Best if Used By, and Use By dates.

A tooth ache can be a serious and painful condition if not taken care of within a timely manner. Sometimes a tooth ache can be caused by something as simple as food stuck in your teeth. Other times it can be due to decay or an injury to a tooth.

If you don’t floss often, you should, at least once a day if not after eating a meal. Flossing is important for healthy gums and teeth and when particles of food get stuck in between and under your teeth, the simple act of flossing can dislodge and ease a minor tooth ache and it is equally important that you brush after meals.

If you’ve tried flossing and this hasn’t help a toothache will often require treatment from your dentist so the next ideal option is to get yourself an appointment but if this can’t be done due to a weekend, there are some things you can try at home to alleviate the pain until you can get in to see your dentist.

Do you have a Cold or the Flu?

If you feel like you’re getting sick, or if you already have cold or flu symptoms, here is our:

Recovery Tip #1: Get Plenty of Rest – It Does a Body Good

Getting plenty of rest is so important when you’re sick or if you feel like you are about to get sick. I know this is pretty much a no brainer, but so many of us are busy people and we neglect to do this one simple thing as there is work to be done and kids we must care for.

How many of you don’t feel you have the time to slow down and take the time needed to care for yourself? You have a busy job, there are household chores to be done, and the kids have activities to get to - you are literally running yourself ragged. You are not giving your body time to heal and in the process of all this running around, you could be spreading unwanted germs to others.

Don’t ignore the fact you’re sick, take the time to rest and recover. That’s what sick days are for and a little extra sleep never hurt anyone and such a simple thing can help your body fight back so you can bounce back quickly!

If you are finding it difficult to get the rest you need, here are a couple of things that might help:

Chamomile Tea: Many people find chamomile tea can help them get to sleep and sleep a little easier. Drinking a cup of chamomile tea 30 minutes before bed can help your sleeplessness.

Natural Sleep Aids: Many find these methods are helpful to relax and get a better night’s sleep. If you don’t want to take prescription sleep medications, a natural sleep aid just might be for you.

How to Help Beat the Winter Blues

It’s cold, wet, the days are shorter, and you’re experiencing the winter doldrums.

I know how it is, you get moody, irritable, snappy, don’t want to leave the warmth and comfort of bed, you have less energy, your appetite changes, and it’s hard to get motivated.

But it doesn’t need to be this way, there are things you can do to lift your spirits.

Exercise - It might be cold outside but if it’s possible bundle up and take the kids on a walk, especially on those sunny days or if there is snow on the ground, everyone join in the fun of making snowmen. If temperatures are too low see if you can get a short term gym membership or listen to upbeat music and bebop around the house.

Reach Out and Help – Volunteering to help others can help lift your mood. Does your church have a program to feed the hungry or homeless? Is there a homeless shelter where you can lend a hand to serve meals or a youth center where you can teach basic computer skills? You can help make a difference and feel good about it.

These are just a couple of things you can do, for more ideas, read the full article: http://goo.gl/wwxpfi

Home Remedies for a Healthy Heart

Cold weather days are quickly moving our way and with the cold we tend to take refuge in our cozy homes, eat more comfort foods and some of us can spend more time on the couch and less time getting a healthy dose of exercise.

Be creative and think of ways to keep moving indoors, it doesn't need to take up a lot of your time, just enough to keep your blood pumping and your joints moving.

Watch your eating habits. Avoid trans-fats, look for low sodium options and give your foods flavor without all the salt.

Natural Cures & Aromatherapy. Promoting Natural Health and Healing using Aromatherapy, Herbs, Vitamins, Minerals, Essential Oils, Teas, Juices and Nutritional Supplements.
Introduction

Home remedies are natural common sense methods used to help treat problems using nutritious healthy food, vitamins, minerals, aromatherapy and other tried and true healing methods that have been used for centuries and passed down for generations.

Natural Cures are best when you have no doubt of the problem you are treating. In some cases, physical symptoms are caused by a more serious illness. Many foods, herbs, vitamins, juices or supplements may interact or interfere with prescription medication.

Prescriptions may deplete the body of certain nutrients, and supplements to replace them may be recommended.

Consult your health care professional if you are being treated for an illness to insure your natural remedy works with and assists your medical treatment.
