February 22nd is National Margarita Day, so we celebrated during our happy hour with fresh strawberry margaritas. And what’s a margarita without homemade guacamole, chips, and salsa? Residents whipped up a batch of guacamole and yes everything was delicious!

Happy Birthday to Jeff, he has an never ending reserve of energy and is usually smiling. Jeff loves to work and can be found helping David our Environmental Services Director on numerous projects. He is an old fashioned ladies man, loves to open doors and "ladies first", kind of guy . Happy Birthday Jeff!

Tuesday, February 5 was National Chocolate Fondue Day. You had us at “chocolate” and if you say chocolate fondue look out, we are your new besties! Bananas, strawberries, pound cake, and pretzels-everything just tastes better with chocolate , so we went all in with a chocolate fondue afternoon. When asked what she thought, Marie could only say “yummy” as she put her fork back in the chocolate fondue pot .

On Wednesday residents made a hot coca mix complete with mini marshmallows and chocolate chips in anticipation of National Hot Coca Day. This morning we topped off each mug of our homemade hot coca with a very generous dollop of whipped cream. It was delicious and the perfect way to get ready for our morning meeting and exercise class!

A BIG WELCOME to our newest resident, Anna. Anna is a Texas transplant with a smile as big as Texas. She has a large family and loved being a homemaker and is especially proud of her husband who was a U.S. Marine.  She says she is a great cook, as she did a lot of it for her family. We are hoping she will share some of her recipes and maybe we can convince her to prepare a few of her favorites for us to taste.

January 21st is National Hugging Day and Cindy, a Dietary Aide, was handing out hugs to all of our residents. It put a huge smile on their faces, as you can see here by Lola’s big grin. Hugs are proven to increase our “feel good” hormones, lower our stress hormones and blood pressure. So go forth and hug someone today, it is good for them and for you!

Is there anything more delicious than a slice of pie? Residents visited Greenbank Farm and while there went for dessert at Whidbey Pies and Cafe, they are pie geniuses. Joann and Jerilyn each had a mouth watering, flaky crust, triple berry slice of perfection. We will be back, there is an extensive pie menu and we decided right there and then to try them all.
