Today's decluttering mission, for September 29th, is to declutter winter gear, such as gloves, scarves and hats, and I also added coats to this mission if you didn't quite get through all of the coats yesterday when dealing with the coat closet. This is the perfect time of year to do it, before you need these things once again. This gives you a chance to make sure all your gloves have matches, and that you've got coats all the right sizes and heaviness for everyone in the family. On the flip side it is a great time to declutter these items as well, since it is also when others may be looking for coats or other winter gear for their own families. If you have more than enough I encourage you to donate some of these items so others can stay warm this winter too!

Today's decluttering mission is to declutter your coat closet and/or entryway closet. Now that cooler weather is coming it's the perfect time for this task. If you or a family member didn't wear a coat hanging in there even once at all last fall or winter season then get rid of it. It's just taking up space, and someone else would very much appreciate wearing something warm this coming winter season -- seriously consider donating them, although you could sell them as well.
Same advice if you've got multiple coats and jackets for one family member. Do you really need that many coats and jackets? You be the judge but really think about it, instead of just assuming you need them all.
Even if you don't get rid of any coats take the opportunity to get them cleaned, so they're fresh and ready for use soon and don't get permanent stains or odors from lack of cleaning. This is especially true for kids coats that will be passed onto another family member later!

Every time you wash a load of laundry one of the things you've got to decide is what temperature water you'll choose to wash it in. Perhaps this isn't something you've thought a lot about before. I didn't for many years, doing instead exactly what my parents always did. But then I learned that the temperature of the water I choose to wash my clothes in makes a huge difference in important factors including energy efficiency, how well the clothes get clean, and even the amount of wear and tear on the fabric. Therefore, here's a helpful guide for how to choose the best water temperature when washing different types of loads of laundry.

Today's decluttering mission, for September 25th, is to declutter comic books and trading cards, or similar collections your child may have. Remember though, the owner of these collections, just like when you declutter your own collections, needs to be involved in the process. In addition, understand that if you enjoy the collection, you have room for it, and view it frequently it is not clutter and you don't have to give it up.
Any items you don't declutter during this process, because you decide you care about these items and want to use the energy and space necessary to keep them, need to be properly stored and organized, so they can be preserved and protected. If you can't muster the energy to properly care for the items you keep you need to rethink if you actually want to keep them, or if they've become clutter.

It's relatively easy to remember all the stuff in your home that has to be cleaned daily, like the dishes in the kitchen sink. It's even somewhat easy to remember the stuff that needs to be cleaned frequently, but not necessarily daily, like washing your sheets and pillowcases. But the less often something needs to be cleaned the easier it is to forget about it, or not give it priority. However, there are things that need to be cleaned frequently in your home, but much less than once a week. Therefore, to help you remember these tasks here's my list of 10 monthly cleaning and laundering tasks you should plan to do approximately every 30 days or so in your home.

Find A Place For Everything In Your Home That Matters
Introduction
Home Storage Solutions 101 is the home of the 52 Week Organized Home Challenge, in which, you guessed it, we organize our homes over the course of 1 year, with one challenge a week.

We just hit the 40,000 mark for participants signed up, and I'd love for you to join us, if you haven't already.

In addition to organizing our homes slowly, one little area or type of item at a time, I like to find all kinds of home storage solutions you can use throughout your home. These can range from items you buy, reuse, repurpose, recycle, or just get completely creative with!

I'm a big fan of anything that has multiple functions, like decorative storage, or furniture that doubles as a place to store something!

We find the best ways to cut the clutter, organize the stuff you've got left, and fit it all in your home comfortably and beautifully so you and your family can enjoy your home all the time!
