You've already seen the logo we're using for the St. Louis Via Lux swag. You may have also have noticed, particularly in recent posts of the "fly-around" view of the anomaly coin, that the reverse side of the coin is centered on a red theme. Here's a little "behind the scenes" story of the design.Based on the Official City Flag of St. Louis, MO
St. Louis has an official flag adopted in 1964. Designed by Theodore Sizel (at the time, an art professor at Yale), the flag celebrates the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers that attracted the original settlers to St. Louis. The golden disc in the center represents the Louisiana purchase, which brought St. Louis, and the rest of the state of Missouri, under U.S. possession. The fleur de lis is a herald of St. Louis of France. St. Louis, MO is his namesake.
The colors of the flag were chosen from the colors of the various countries that had owned the territory throughout its history. The vivid red represents not only the red, white, and blue of the United States, but also Spain (red and gold), and Napoleonic France (also red, white, and blue).
The St. Louis city flag has a storied past, which you can find described on this site: http://www.distilledhistory.com/category/stlouishistory/stlouisflag/Get The Gear!
