Is it just me or did Gmail's spam filters suddenly give out? The past two or three days, I've had a bunch of "easy money" spam in my Gmail account, and I never use that account to sign up for things on the Internet.

I've marked them as spam, but it's made Gmail much less useful for me on my mobile devices.

Good tip for preventing unwanted events from showing up in your Google calendar and another for settings related to events you create.

Just say NO to Event Spam... and other Google+ Event Disasters!

If you are finding that you are getting items added to your calendar that you did not want to see there, you've experienced Event Spam.

Use the settings shown below inside Google Calendar to be sure you only see the Events you want to see added to your calendar.

I recently was showing someone what settings to choose here when I noticed a sneaky new setting! It gives you the option to Automatically Add a Hangout to your Events that you create. If you know what you are doing here, then feel free to choose Yes for that option...

If you are not sure, please, please say NO (thankfully the default). If you ever use the Event Tool to Advertise a Hangout on Air (HOA) then adding the Hangout choice to your Event is one way to spell disaster. A 'Hangout' is not a 'Hangout on Air'...

You can show HOA videos live in the Event window, but it is View Only. Whereas making an Event a 'Hangout' Event, will include a Regular Hangout that up to 10 people can join as an integral part of the Event.

I'm just not so fond of it alerting me for things on my phone at odd times of the day or night that I never intended to attend, but I'm with you on GABF. :)

Seems as though G+ is trying to be FB again. My response? No, thank you!

Really, G+, you find this necessary to tell me after my thousandth or so post? Why? And why do you not provide me with a way to dismiss it?

New ways to filter your stream!

More ways to control what you read and share

Last year we launched volume "sliders" to help you tune the posts in your main stream (http://goo.gl/wrHDD), and since then we've extended this feature across Google+. Today we're excited to roll out three related improvements that give you even more control over what you read and share.

1) Whether it's family members or epic bros, we've all got circles of friends whose content we don't want to miss. By moving a circle's slider all the way to the right, you can now get notified whenever they share something new.

2) For these select circles, we often have news we really want to share -- like getting engaged, or landing a job. In these cases you can now check "Also send email" when sharing, to help make sure your friends see your message.

3) Finally, we all have a chatty Cathy (or Charles) in our circles. We still want to enjoy their posts in the stream, but we don't want a notification every time they share with us. Now you can do exactly that: just click “Mute” from notifications or their profile.

We're rolling out these features over the next day or two, so check back soon if you don't see them yet. We hope you enjoy these new improvements, and we look forward to hearing your feedback in the comments!

+Holly Henry, I happened to read a bit ago where they mentioned that FB is basically the worlds photo sharing site.  As you know, I recently had a little one and G+ is perfect.  Not only because you can share pictures, but the additional security makes it a great product for parents.  I would love to see Google market it from that point of view.  To date is seems like they are really promoting the hangout features more than anything.
