Google result pages give so much information about businesses these days that you don't even need to go to their sites. Do you think this is harmful to business stats and impulsive prospective customer actions?

As long as Google fixes their silly local/business pages duplication issues, it shouldn't matter a whole lot. At the end of the day, the important thing is that the customer can reach you.

In 2005, I wrote a two-part series on ClickZ called, "Is Advertorial a Four-Letter Word?" in which I posed this lead-in question: "Is paid editorial evil?" The article not only explored the basis for this supposition, but also why I felt advertorial was getting an undeserved bad rap.
