Hayes moves the reader along the wall with a confident voice and considered imagistic poems that do not fail to seep into the reader’s memory on reading. An accomplished collection and thoroughly recommended read. The #HousesAlongtheWall @LitWorks

Grut populates her collection with people so close to us, so easy to read, it is as if they were the neighbours we’d spent a decade or so apologising to about the noise. Live Show, Drinks Included is not a mirror but rather a window above a kitchen sink where you just might catch a sun-distorted reflection of someone you know. – Ashley Bullen-Cutting in Litro

'One poem imagines the missing estate agent Suzy Lampugh playing hide and seek with children in one of the houses, giving the collection a contemporary edge. There’s much to savour here and the aim of preserving the character and houses is achieved.' – Emma Lee on her Blog

It may well be chaos in the British parliament, but they are discussing real issues. The Mother of Parliament wants to hang on to that.

A collection of rare beauty, insight and empathy. Many of Vicky Grut’s characters find themselves in a no-man’s-land that opens up in the midst of their otherwise ordinary lives.

Wonderful writing, and as glorious an ending as I’ve read in a long time. - Tara27 reviews Live Show, Drink Included

Grut has a beautiful writing style. With simple, well chosen words, she conveys so much, never giving too much away. She is never flowery and often enigmatic.

Read it if you love stories that are thought provoking, clever and surprising. A really great book.

The end of the book, where we learn of the depths of van Gogh's mental anguish, is shocking, and I've never read anything quite like it.

After reading The Yellow House I came to the conclusion that painting was van Gogh's way of communicating effectively with the outside world. He saw art in everything, and art was everything to him.

Vicky Grut reveals her knack for summoning up characters so real they’ll follow you around your house. She is skilled a winding a whole life into a single line of exposition – ‘the sort of person who couldn’t button his shirts in the right order but could tell you about quantum physics if you had a few hours to spare.’
