I went to CicLaVia's Iconic Wilshire for the first time on April 7th. The streets from One Wilshire in Downtown Los Angeles to Fairfax Avenue along Miracle Mile were closed to cars creating open streets for pedestrians and cyclists to enjoy special performances, food trucks and more. The photo below shows a banner of Jay Mark Johnson's art project #inwheeltime  hanging in front of a high-rise on Wilshire Boulevard. DREAM BATTLES is a series of new mixed-media paintings by NYC-based artist, Zefrey Throwell, depicting duels between some of the most iconic and infamous symbols of the past century. He co-opts the spectacle of the prizefight by pitting opponents of ideological extremes against each other — philosophical battles that examine the underpinnings of modern society. This series of 20 silkscreen and acrylic paintings on fabric is presented by Garis & Hahn Gallery in NYC on Feb. 28, 2014.

In support of the National Day of Civic Hacking, Los Angeles hosted Hack for LA on June 1-2, 2013 at the Boyle Heights Youth Technology Center. Following Los Angeles’ election of our new mayor, Eric Garcetti, the hackathon offered government agencies, businesses, nonprofits and civically engaged individuals the opportunity to work together to move into a new era of solving complex social problems through technology innovation.  We had more than 450 people attend, and 40 apps were submitted our event.  Check out the apps and upcoming events in Los Angeles. Make an impact!

Here in LA we have just elected a new mayor; what better time to show the city and the country what the LA tech community can contribute than by being part of our civic hackathon on June 1-2 in Boyle Heights? Please join us and share. #hackforla #hackforchange #latech #socialchange
