Don't overlook those white blooms for more showy colours. Including white in the garden helps brighten the garden and make other colours pop. http://ow.ly/oRIU302e7dp #gardendesign

Be wary of those 'native plants' you see at Big Box stores, many of them are not true natives. http://ow.ly/bR5b302e4qX #plantnative

The image on the left has been around for a few years and every time I see it I grimace and shake my head. Although these plants may attract pollinators to your garden, they are not what is best for those pollinators. Native plants, in addition to providing nectar like annuals, herbs and non-native perennials will also provide food for pollinator larvae. Think of the milkweed plant and the monarch caterpillar. It isn't the nectar that is critical, it is the foliage that the caterpillar eats. Native plants have evolved with our native pollinators and have interactions that go beyond providing nectar. Native plants will also provide food and habitat to native birds and animals.
So, please save the bees and beyond with these Ontario native pollinator pals from Ontario Nature and leave those annuals and other non-native plants in the garden centre. ‪#‎nativeplants‬ ‪#‎savethebees‬ ‪#‎ontariogardener‬ ‪#‎habitatgardens‬

One of my favourite Ontario native plants. Blue False Indigo. Is gorgeous when planted as a specimen or in a group to make a hedgerow. #nativeplants #plantforpollinators
