3 Often Overlooked Grooming Tips

A critical illness may put your mind off the little things like hair, skin, and nail care. While it is true that these are not the main priority, it still pays to give them a little attention. Not only will these make the patient look and feel great, you will also help them avoid any additional discomfort and cost. Below are a few things you can do:

1. Apply sunscreen when going out. Apart from fighting off skin cancer, sunscreen can also prolong youthfulness and retain moisture in the skin.

2. Use shampoo intermittently. This is to avoid scalp flakes caused by dryness. Shampoo reduces the oil of your hair which, if done frequently, can lead to a brittle and damaged mane.

3. Keep nails dry, clean, and trimmed. Moist and dirty areas in the body are susceptible to bacterial infection. Having long nails also increases the risks of breakage and trauma to the toes and fingers.

If you need assistance in caring for senior, disabled, or sick loved ones, call our office at 614-839-4545. We will be more than glad to improve the quality of your life at home.

3 Ways to Deal with Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease that affects most elderly people, causing them inflammations to their knees, pelvic area, and fingers. Although it is a common part of aging, it can be minimized using the following techniques:

1. Loose excess weight. The heavier you are the more pressure your joints receive. If this stays the same for a longer period of time, the damage could be worse than when mitigated early.

2. Perform flexibility exercises. When left unused, your joints could develop stiffness which is the primary source of pain in osteoarthritis. So regularly do light exercises that aim to improve flexibility. You could really use the help of a physical therapist!

3. Consistently follow your treatment plan. Never miss taking a prescribed pill. If you think your memory cannot be trusted, ask for an assistance of a family member or a home health care provider.

Is osteoarthritis shifting the way things are in your home more than it should be? We can lend you a hand by running your chores and helping you with your daily routines. Just call our office at 614-839-4545 for more details.
