About four or five years ago the word “engagement” popped up. The theory behind it was if companies and individuals wanted to maximize their social, they needed to do less broadcasting and more interacting with their audience. It’s a great theory and one that needed to proliferate throughout the social web because a lot of social sites were just people screaming into caves and/or spamming the crap out of anyone that might listen.

To this date, I hear some of the most renowned social media pundits and experts preach their special brand of engagement. Their public speaking, books and social media channels are littered with messages to enchant, inspire and heck even 1,2,3 jab you with how to engage. But when you watch them – and I mean really, really watch them – what do you see?
Social media is an industry that isn’t afraid to throw around buzz words. Like a restaurant’s “Soup du jour” a new hot word comes spilling down the road each da(...)

When you make it big, it's all about you -- your content, monetizing your "stuff", people praising and validating your existence. +Geoff Livingston pundits talking AT you is totally right!

I love this post from +Amy McCloskey Tobin and how this is challenging traditional mindsets and giving fodder to the Millennial generation to make the necessary changes to send the right messages: "A considerable amount has already been written about Barbie’s unrealistic proportions and the fairy tale example she sets for young girls. For decades women’s groups have decried both her proportions, attire, and the accouterments."

+Andrew Jenkins  creates this post that reveals the challenges of applying this new "learned" practices to our jobs. "Falling back into old habits". Sometimes trying to remain relevant has its own pitfalls. http://arcompany.co/she-went-to-a-social-selling-workshop-and-you-wont-believe-what-happened-next/

Our guest blog on +ArCompany Thanks to +Daniel Newman for validating the changes inherent in this new seller economy : Excerpt : "Buoyancy: In sales we don’t face a pond of rejection; we face an ocean. The more you can get over that rejection and move on quickly, the better off you will be."  http://arcompany.co/the-seller-beware-economy-inspired-by-daniel-pink-via-danielnewmanuv/

"Real time customer intelligence services present not only a fast way of bringing these interactions together but the means to personalise and continue conversations with customers regardless of which channel or device they happen to be on."
There are many great examples of how Netflix uses data to personalise user experience.

Introduction

Who am I? I am an online marketer who has worked in the technology space for over a decade. My new venture is ArCompany. I'm working with some pretty amazing colleagues in their own right: Danny Brown, Amy Tobin and Andrew Jenkins. We are all excited about this next evolution of social and what it will mean for business. We want to help businesses get there and capitalize on what what's coming.

I am also a writer with the Huffington Post, What's Your Tech and Digital Journal. I am also one of 3 Marketing Geeks in a weekly pubcast on technology. Previous experiences include Jugnoo, Due North, Isobar Digital, Yahoo! Overlay.TV, Citibank, CIBC, Ogilvy and Rapp Collins.  I have views on advertising, emerging technology including video, and social web applications. I’m living and breathing in the social web space and cannot consume as quickly as this space evolves. I follow politics, environmental initiatives, and music (mainly the old stuff pre 1990).

Some quick notes about me: Marketer… Cellist…US Politics watcher…Twitterer, Yoga-er??!… Fave coffee: Tall Non-fat Caramel Macchiato – Starbucks…Michael Jackson fan…Jeffery Deaver fanatic….sap for human interest stories..Rubik’s cubist…dabbled in pointillism… interest in caricatures and nude painting…can say the alphabet backwords…know most world capitals… hockey and soccer mom…
