       •     Mentone Groyne, Hidden Sunset     •

The sunset was hidden by the Groyne. This is the more interesting side. Whilst this photo looks rather serene, It was blowing a gale.

ISO 100, f/9, 30seconds, 24mm.

                           •     Leftovers     •

The leftovers of the old Hornibrook Bridge just as the sun was crossing the horizon at sunset about a month ago. This was my second last shot before I killed the car. I've gone a bit berserk with the saturation on the water and the sky to bring out the complimentary colours. Manual blend of an 8 second and a 30 second exposure. Luminosity masks were used for the blend, sharpening and noise reduction.

Anyone who grew up in Brisbane, drove over the old bridge to Redcliffe. Every seam in the bitumen, every few metres, made a 'thud' through the floor of the car, until it formed it's own rythym.  The Bee Gee's as we all know, lived at Woody Point ... just on the other side of the bridge.  I watched an interview with Barry once and he talked about the song Jive Talking and how they wrote it. He said it began on a drive, where the sound of the road underneath the car, made a beat, which repeated over and over ... and I often wondered if it was on the old hornibrook bridge :)

             •     Black and White on Colour     •

A little experiment using Black and White Processing in +Nik Collection by Google Silver Efex to control the tonal range in a colour image. Putting it simply, process your RAW as usual, but lay low on the clarity slider. Take it to the Photo Shop and Duplicate the Layer. Process new layer in Silver Efex to fill out the tonal range and get a pleasing Black and White conversion to your taste. Set Layer mode to Luminosity, and voilà!
This way the colours from your RAW processing are used, whilst the black and white controls the brightness and darkness of each pixel.
Amazing Detail can be recovered this way, like the shadow the cloud is casting into the humid air.
+Gerard Blacklock, this is what I mentioned in the comment on your survey :-)

                  •     Twist and Shoot    •

Some experimental photography at lunch today playing with deliberate camera movement, in this case a twist shooting at 1/15th at f/22 ISO 100 into an overcast sky...

        •     Have a happy weekend everyone     •

Here is another from last weekends allnighter to catch a sunrise.
The sun is already too high for my liking here, and this was a dog to blend using luminosity masks on 5 brackets, but I do like the composition.
I had to pissbolt here. The sun was rising that fast :-)
This is Pandanus Beach at Wynnum.

Pleasant little surprise from Google. They collated some of my shots into a little 37 second video.

HMQS Gayundah in her 56th year beached at Woody Point.
Launched in in 1884, she served Queensland's Navy until she became HMAS Gayundah in 1901 with Australia's Federation.
She has a long and interesting history. More at http://www.navy.gov.au/hmas-gayundah and at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMQS_Gayundah

A bit more experimentation with intentional camera movement, panning vertically. Really something fun to try when presented with dull and boring scenes of everyday.
This one was 1/15th, f/5.6 ISO 100 with a nifty fifty 1.4. Camera was set to shutter priority
