Google reports, "Users on the old Google Drive interface are unable to share externally.  As a workaround, affected users can switch to Google Drive's new UI and share documents from "My Drive"."

You can switch to the new drive interface by clicking on the gear in the top right of Google Drive and selecting Experience the New Drive.

The Chief Information Officer for the State of Idaho notified Boise State University this afternoon of a "ransomware" malicious software infection currently impacting some State agencies.

Cryptolocker has been called "the nastiest malware ever" and results in a person opening a malicious email attachment, which runs a process that encrypts not only all of the files on a computer's hard drive, but also files on attached network servers.

Once files have been encrypted, a ransom (often several hundred dollars) must be paid to restore access to the encrypted files by a certain date and time. If the ransom is not paid, the encrypted data is deleted.

Please be vigilant and do not click on email attachments from addresses or individuals that can't be verified (nearly 100 people at Boise State responded to a malicious phishing email sent earlier this week).

If you have questions or concerns about email attachments you receive, contact the Office of Information Technology Help Desk at 208-426-4357 or email helpdesk@boisestate.edu, or contact your local college or area net admin.

Boise State University will never ask you for your Password in an email.

A targeted phishing email attack using a fake Blackboard alert is underway against Boise State students, faculty and staff.

The phishing email appears to be from alerts@blackboard.com, and is being used to harvest Boise State account credentials. A link within the email directs to a web form on a domain registered in Belarus.

If anybody clicked on the link within the email and submitted account data, they will need to reset their Boise State account password immediately and contact the Office of Information Technology Help Desk for further information at 426-4357, or helpdesk@boisestate.edu.

The Office of Information Technology will never request your Boise State password via email. We have already received reports from people who submitted their account data.

Boise State's Wordpress environment is experiencing issues with updates to posts and pages.  The updates are not saving properly.  Please refrain from making changes at this time.  We hope to have a fix in place this morning.

Wondering why +Gmail had an outage yesterday?  Google did provide the following statement on the Apps Status Dashboard, "On Monday, 10 December 2012, we experienced an issue with Gmail and some users experienced slow performance or errors. For everyone who was affected, we apologize - we know you count on +Google to work for you, and we worked hard to restore normal operation for you. Although our engineering team is still fully engaged on investigation, we are confident we have established the root cause of the event and corrected it. Our current best estimate is that a significant subset of users' Gmail web queries were affected for an aggregate of 18 minutes, from ~08:54 - ~09:00 and then from ~09:04 - ~09:16 Pacific Time."

Ars Technica has a good article reviewing the public details of the outage and what Google has done to prevent it in the future.
