"If a man were to masturbate while engaged in other forms of sexual intimacy with his wife then he would not be doing so in a homosexual way. However, any man who does so without his wife in the room is bordering on homosexuality activity, particularly if he's watching himself in a mirror and being turned on by his own male body." - Pastor Mark Driscoll

Never forget that this happened.

Last night, while standing at the crosswalk, I was in a very good mood despite being a little damp from the weather. I was dressed not terribly provocatively, but my lips were sporting black lipstick and I was wearing a black turtleneck under my dress. As I was waiting for the signal to change, I noticed a light behind me. It was wielded by a man, who, along with another man, had emerged from the church nearby.

Flashlight man looked at me, smiled in that insincere "I want to save you" way that I know all too well from having grown up a scarf-wearing Muslim, and said, "Lord bless you."
I replied, not unpleasantly, "Actually, I'm an atheist."

Why did I bother to say that? Because although I do strongly feel that his religion is harmful to the world, I don't go up to his face and get mad at him about it. Also, I want to make it socially unacceptable for people to assume aloud that I'm either a theist or in need of "saving."

Declaring my atheism would usually mean that the conversation would stop. Oh no, not with sanctimonious flashlight dude. He smiled that obnoxious smile again and said, "Well, Lord bless you."

That was it. I was done. I said, in a tone mirroring his calm condescension, "Well, I hope the magical fairies sprinkle their pixie dust on you, too" then walked off, giggling to myself.

I'm so glad that I haven't alienated everyone with whom I don't completely agree and vice versa. Thanks for sticking around, all.

I really want for there to be a check on me in case I start developing the traits of a diva, a butt, a pompous blowhard, or any combination of the above. It's why I read all the criticism of me that I find (yes, even those seemingly of the "troll" variety) and sometimes even engage it. I don't ever want to get to the point where I am unable to recognize my own very pronounced fallibility.

Why does +jonathan doklovic hate the person he's dating so much? Does he not know he should be dating someone he likes and respects?

Also, statistically speaking, men interrupt far more. See:
http://people.uncw.edu/hakanr/documents/genderandinterruption.pdfhttp://www.negotiations.com/articles/gender-interaction/http://interruptions.net/literature/Stratford-JFT98.pdf.
At a tech conference in Berlin, a developer compared a software plug-in framework to his girlfriend, saying she "complains, interrupts" and "doesn't play well with others."

Except that women are always perceived as "whiney", "complainey", "demanding", etc, so mb it wldn't be such a big deal for dudes not to make these "typical gf" jokes, Clifton?

After over a month of struggling to get answers from HP on my laptop repair (half a dozen calls made, inconsistencies and discrepancies told to me, total lack of communication on their part -- all over a water spill that rendered some of the keys and the touchpad non-functional but otherwise left the laptop working fine), they've decided to send me a brand-new one & $125 in credit (because the new one doesn't have an optical drive).

The repair cost? $178.
I'm getting a brand new, better than my old one laptop for ~$50.

Nothing can make me sad right now. NOTHING.

Dear jerks who keep mentioning it whenever The Hunger Games comes up,

Why yes, I did read #BattleRoyale. And I HATED it, to the point where I keep balking at watching the movie. It was mostly backwards on gender issues, none of the characters were likable (I wanted them ALL to DIE), and the writing was stilted to me.

You can like what you like, though. I won't tell you to not like BR because I think HG is superior, but for the love of all that is dystopian, can you stop being so goddamn sanctimonious about your love of BR and hatred of HG? No one is impressed anymore. Go home.

Love,
Me
