Heike Philp is founder and CEO of let's talk online sprl (since 2003), providing technology support for language learning and events in real-time via the internet. With over 20 years in education and several years of teaching German in Japan and the UK, Heike took on the live online challenge by starting a virtual language school and her experience subsequently led her to co-initiate the European funded LANCELOT project. LANCELOT, which stand for LANguage learning with CErtified Live Online Teachers, saw 23 partners in 8 countries jointly developing a train-the-trainer course for language teachers in the use of virtual classroom technology to teach a language. It successfully completed in 2007. Heike’s enthusiasm for synchronous Internet communication also led her to co-initiate yet another European funded project: AVALON is a 2-year development project exploring 3D virtual worlds such as Second Life for language learning. AVALON, which stands for Access to Virtual and Action learning Live ONline, started in January 2009 with a consortium of 26 European partners, 11 of which are Universities. http://www.avalonlearning.eu. In December 2013, newly-granted CAMELOT. CAMELOT, which stands for CreAting Machinima Empowers Live Online language Teaching and Learning, is about language videos created in virtual worlds. Again a teacher training course will be developed to utilize 3D environment for a cinematic production.
