As a follow-up to my last column on leadership lessons from Revolutionary War hero John Paul Jones, this month I would like to present a supplemental concept which, when combined with “grit” in the context of business, plays a significant role in our success: self-control. The better we understand the connections and distinctions between self-control and grit, the better we will be able to use them to our professional advantage.

We've all heard the term "couch potato." It's what we say when someone just lazes about or sits all day. But aside from the disdainful nickname, there are other consequences to sitting for long periods of time. In fact, sitting all day can have very negative effects on one's health. Murat Dalkilinc goes into all of the ups and downs of sitting, and how it affects both our minds and our bodies.

Run illegally, the Lehigh Valley's largest group of Medicaid-funded mental health clinics used unqualified stand-ins for psychiatrists and rushed patients through "medication management" visits, federal prosecutors allege.

These are the most horrible and incompetant nurses in NYC. After a spinal fusion and a lapemdectomy the nurses mixed up my chart and refused to give me pain medication for the first 24 hours. I was literally in my bed screaming from the incision. They didn't even bother to answer the bell or check to see what was wrong. They refused to privide assistance to get to the bathroom and to get on a gurney for an Xray. They wouldn't make eye contact when they did come into a room. If they wanted you to turn over they would just push at you. The sheets were never changed and the food was left on the opposite side of the room. They did this knowing I could not get out of the bed. The hospital staff sends a survey and asks if you want to speak to someone. I said yes of course they never got beack to me. This is a disgusting place don't go there.
