My microbiome sequencing came back from #AmericanGut  "Your sample contained 60 rare and 2 unique taxa". Whoa.

They send you swabs in test tubes and you can swab whatever you want it only needs a tiny droplet of sample

Snail mucus facial stuff. I'm amazed it is a thing. How did the first person decide to smother the stuff on their face?

I had to look up who Hayek was :P (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friedrich_Hayek)

Experimenting with reinforcement learning in Aerosolve and teaching it to play pacman.

https://github.com/airbnb/aerosolve/pull/69

Here it has just started learning how to play and encountered a ghost only once before but still not doing too bad. The algorithm learns as it goes along (no rules are encoded just a reward for actions) so in just the last life it has learnt that a pellet is good and a ghost is bad. Even with a simple state space of 8 variables and 4 actions it still generates a ton of support vectors.

The math can be seen here in this chapter of Sutton's book:

If you have 20 minutes to spare, this video talks about Zipf's law (how it was derived, where it appears, and why languages tend to follow it), and gets to some more interesting topics such as the Pareto principle and hapax legomenon. Funnily, an example of such a word is quizzaciously, which suddenly became popular (and hence not a hapax) immediately after this video becoming popular.

My google voice transcriptions suddenly got better. I suspect I'm in the experiment arm with hmmm deep long short term memory recurrent convolutional neural nets? ;)

Stopped by Amsterdam on the way to Singapore. The airbnb listing had a nice view of an old guard tower that was the outer limits of the city in mideaval times.

The king of kings durian is sweet and firm with flat bitter seeds and the classic mao shan (cat mountain) is really delicious, sweet soft and creamy. They have tables to eat durian at and you can also buy fresh coconut water to drink from. A great durian dining experience!
