I have to hand it to Darrell Brann, the new owner of the OK Theatre in Enterprise, Oregon.  He's the owner of a small, rural, neighborhood theatre that's been left behind by the digital movement.  But I admire his optimism.  Hopefully he'll make lemonade out of lemons one of these days.  No website yet, but active on Facebook. And the only theatre in a county of about 7,000 souls.

From the OK Theatre's page (and a photo from the 1920s):
Hello all! This is Darrell Brann, my family and I are the new owners of the OK theatre. We are excited about this new adventure and wanted to update those who are interested in the theatre.
We have spent the last few months working on a vision and long term plans for this wonderful little theatre. As some of you know the equipment in the theatre is outdated as hollywood has moved to digital projection, the current cost to upgrade is between $40,000 and $50,000. Given that cost and our desire to make energy improvements to the building it will be sometime before we will be able to show movies. In the meantime we will be focused on live events, mostly music but certainly dance and stage productions as well. We look forward to serving this community and bring great events to Enterprise.
sincerely,
Darrell Brann and family .
P.S. Updates and events soon to follow!

What a fun piece.  At times I was hearing harpsichord too (in my head).  Shared with some collaborative pianist/composer friends.

I always wondered why a certain friend had such libraries associated with travel. This makes sense & has some good tips.
Actively anticipating a vacation can deliver doses of pleasure before the trip and soften the disappointment of dashed expectations after you return.

A gorgeous Fourth of July jaunt around Wallowa Lake in Eastern Oregon. Bill's happy to have the boat out and were now "Yacht Club" members with a slip to keep it in for the season.

Interesting article--I remember appreciating music in foreign languages played on the radio when I lived overseas, wondering about the lyrics, but enjoying the instrumentality of it regardless.
The current market share of Jazz in America is mere 3 percent. That includes all the great ones like John Coltrane and the terrible ones like Kenny G (OK, this is just my own opinion). There are many organizations and individuals like Wynton Marsalis who are tirelessly trying to revive the genre, but it does not seem to be working. Why is this? Is there some sort of bad chemistry between the American culture and Jazz? As ironic as it may be, I ha...

Very helpful in quickly navigating through my new Galaxy S5 phone and getting it all set up for use--easy to follow instructions.  Nothing about optimizing Swype (no instructions for that) but everything else thoroughly covered. Thanks, +Avram Piltch

Wonderful interview.  We can learn so much from great musicians who also talk about their playing.

I don't shop for clothes often but when I do I start with To Zion. Little bit funky, sometimes throwback, but always very flattering once I decide. Prices are reasonable and surprising given that it's located in a destination town.

This community hardware store is one of the best I've ever visited. My husband can't do a project without at least two trips to Joseph Hardware and the guys are always extremely helpful--even when they wind up having to jury-rig something to fix our old house. I love the atmosphere and the helpful attitude. Their December holiday parties are in the do-not-miss category of my winter social calendar.

Always worth a stop whenever I'm in the Portland, OR, area. We've picked up a variety of furnishings for our bed and breakfast at Upscale Consignment, especially occasional tables. It's nice to be able to review their inventory online as well.

OK, I am very fond of fish tacos. If they are on the menu, the chance is very good that I will order them. And the fish tacos at the new Mutiny Brewing Company in Joseph Oregon are great. Lots of fresh, local ingredients. Tremendous salsa. Lime wedges and pickled red onions on the side. We are still awaiting the Mutiny Brewing Company beer--but if the fish tacos are any indication, we know it is going to be great!

I can't remember how many times I've stayed at the Old Parkdale Inn but I know it's been in every season. Now, it's transformed into a very relaxing but elegant bed and breakfast. All the guestrooms are well-appointed and painted in soothing colors. The beds are so comfortable that it's almost too difficult to come downstairs except there's a fabulous breakfast waiting. Mary subscribes to the local agriculture CSA program and every week there's some new bounty she adds to her menu. If I'm going to be in the Hood River Valley, this is the place.

Montira's is conveniently located at the west end of downtown The Dalles. We've been stopping here since discovering it in 2009 and every dining experience has ben wonderful. This meal included Panang Curry and Yellow Curry, although the Drunken Noodles at the next table looked really good too. Service is quick and the prices are very reasonable.
