Reposting this here - it's important! For example, this YouTube video would not have been possible without video calls for Glass: http://youtu.be/-iWLVukcQnk

My email to Google, earlier today, after learning that the new update removes the video call feature from Glass:

The removal of video feature is really a deadly blow for Glass in Medicine!
The use in Med Ed, Telemedicine, Tele-mentoring, Tele-consulting is Now NOT possible!
I only hope that this is restored in the next update.
There's a very active, important, growing professional community that has been working around Glass in Healthcare, who depends on this particular characteristic of Glass.
Please reconsider the decision of taking video away, or at least allow some user subgroups to choose whether to update.
Folks like me and several others, from Maine and Boston to San Francisco must have the video option to be able to make Glass an important tool in Healthcare and Medical Education.
Please.

Respectfully.

Rafael Grossmann, MD, FACS

I've now shown this to so many people IRL, I have to repost! This video by +Wearable Intelligence is very well done, and everything they show is totally possible right now. Except the EMR integration...I know +Chris Vukin is working on that, tho :) HT to +Timothy Clemans for sharing this.

+Heather Evans if he is he hides well... there are a bunch of Steven Horng's but I can't match any to him... they are working with wearable intelligence in terms of mass availability.   We need a base (HIPAA/Security) open source so everyone can add their secret sauces from their specialty applications

I'm speaking about high risk trauma transport and infectious disease in critically ill patients here at the St. Patricks' Spring Fever trauma conference. Also snuck in a little future talk with +Google Glass use in #prehospital  communications and intraoperative coaching. Snapped this photo of Drs. Zoe Maher from +University of Pennsylvania and Dr. Stacie Campo from St. Patricks - probably the first time ever 3 women who are also #trauma #surgeons gather in #Missoula!

+Heather Evans Awesome!

And talk about roundabout connections-- I know Stacie and Zoe as well-- trained with them (residency) at Temple!

Look familiar, +Timothy Clemans ??

Imagine receiving a pair of Glass along with your white coat and stethoscope on your first day of medical school. This school is training the next generation of doctors with Google Glass by integrating it into all parts of its innovative curriculum.

My video made it on the Google Explorer promo! That's me, "a surgeon"

Become a Glass Explorer on Tues April 15

Whoops. So... we’d planned to post this next week, but it looks like the cat's out of the bag now. Over the past several months, we’ve been trying out different ways to expand the Explorer program. Some of you signed up at Google I/O, some told us what you would do #ifihadglass , some were referred by a friend, some joined through their school or university. Our Explorers are moms, bakers, surgeons, rockers, and each new Explorer has brought a new perspective that is making Glass better. But every day we get requests from those of you who haven’t found a way into the program yet, and we want your feedback too. So in typical Explorer Program fashion, we’re trying something new.

Next Tuesday, April 15th at 6am PDT, we’re opening up some spots in the Glass Explorer Program. Any adult in the US* can become an Explorer by visiting our site and purchasing Glass for $1500 + tax – and it now comes with your favorite shade or frame, thanks to feedback from our current Explorers. The number of spots available is limited, so mark your calendar if you want to get in. You can find us on Tuesday at: http://google.com/glass/start/how-to-get-one

We’re excited to meet our new Explorers, and we can’t wait to hear your thoughts about Glass.

*To everyone outside the US... we know. Sorry :( We’re just not ready yet to bring Glass to other countries.

Introduction
I'm a trauma surgeon and critical care intensivist interested in the intersection of technology and healthcare, looking for solutions to healthcare associated infections.

My multidisciplinary research group at the University of Washington is building a mobile app for patients to use after they go home from the hospital following surgery to monitor their surgical wounds for infection. mPOWEr is not only a personal health record, it's a communication tool to securely transmit information and photos of surgical wounds for review by the providers that know wound problems best: their surgeons.
