Freya Help  -

I installed from elementaryos-stable-0.3.1-amd64.20150903.iso, which I pulled from http://elementary.io After installation there is an icon that's named "install release" which seems to launch ubiquity. Did I goof something up or is this expected behavior? Note: this is on the installed system, not the live cd.

Do you want the dock to show on all of your monitors? Check out my new post.

A comment on my original article, combined with a holdiay, created an opportunity for improvement. While my previous post provided a method to manually specify 2+ docks, this was not ideal for situations where the number of monitors frequently changes. With that in mind I created a small app ...

+Heath Paddock, Plank is separate from elementary. Plank can do whatever it wants, although they of course follow elementary's principles to some degree.

Besides if you create a bug now it'll probably get confirmed by Rico anyways.

So...it's elementary with a different wallpaper?

http://www.linuxinsider.com/story/82263.html
Mangaka is a not-so-traditional Linux distro with a gorgeous look. After gaining some traction among fans of the manga and anime communities, Mangaka fell dormant in December 2009. Developer Animesoft International regrouped, and the latest Release Candidate version came out on June 20. The Mangaka Project -- the name means "love" in Japanese -- started out with the code name of "AngelOS."

They are perfectly within their rights to change the wallpaper and rebrand. I just wonder, what's the point? Seems like a lot of effort.

Third-Party Apps  -

I guess I'm a little late to the party. I created an app called Safe for elementary OS that allows you to create encrypted containers to hold sensitive files. It uses https://www.dyne.org/software/tomb under the hood to handle all of the complex parts. I'm sure it has lots of bugs which you all will find and tell me about.

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:heathbar/safe
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install safe

For security reasons, Safe will not work when swap is enabled. For now you can run: "sudo swapoff -a" to disable the swap. In the future, perhaps Safe will disable and re-enable your swap for you.

No, it is just a front panel to my desktop. One USB cable goes out the back to my tower.

If I'm writing an app for elementary, is there a specific namespace I should be using for things like gsettings/dconf? org.pantheon.myapp? Or should I be creating my own since I'm not officially connected to elementary?

Ideally find an umbrella to put yourself under.  If your project is associated with GNOME (ie: hosted on gnome.org) you'd use org.gnome, even without some sort of "official approval".

Some people have extended this idea to using other domains -- for example, if I'm 'desrt' on github, I might use com.github.desrt..  I think I've also seen at least once an email address like com.gmail.accountname..

Robert is right: the most important thing is that you don't clash.  The other thing to keep in mind is to choose a name that won't change soon so that your users don't get their settings lost if you move the path.

Has anyone worked with glib-compile-resources + vala? I've successfully generated a .c file, but I'm not sure what goes in the cmake file to make the magic happen. Do I need a VAPI for that?

EDIT: Pixbuf.from_inline seems to be another options, but I'm still unclear, once I get the data file, how do I include it in the project?

Has anyone gotten GtkInspector or gtkparasite working on Freya? I've gotten them both compiled and installed, but can't seem to get them running.

I tried this:
$GTK_DEBUG=interactive appname
and this:
$ GTK_MODULES=gtkparasite appname

Edit: I just noticed GtkInspector was added for 3.14 so that won't work for Freya. Should I hold out hope for parasite?

Hey look, you can have plank show on two monitors at the same time.

Dual docks in elementary OS. When using two monitors in elementary OS the dock only shows on one monitor. I prefer to have it shown on both monitors. Here's how it's done: Open the terminal and enter the following commands to create a new dock definition with the same settings as your current ...
