Every now and then, I like to put together a post that shows the process I used to create an image. Here's the latest.
Here's another in a very occasional series describing the process I used to create a photograph. Today, we'll look at the first shot in yesterday's Sunday Serenity post. The photo was taken at around 5:00pm, about 15 minutes before the sun set behind my left shoulder. It was a 17sec exposure, using a Lee Big Stopper neutral density filter, with my lens at 18mm, an aperture of f/11 and camera on ISO320. The camera was on a tripod with...

I went looking for a tree. The tree is gone. I found serenity. #serenitynow
I took a trip out to Wellington Point this afternoon, with a plan to shoot a particular tree. A single mangrove, which was once so popular among the Brisbane photography community that it had its own group on flickr.  Of course it wasn't until I got there, at the end of a 45 minute drive, that I found out that the tree was recently cut down. A shame, but not necessarily a bad thing as it forced me to look for other scenes.

When I travel to Groote Eylandt, luggage restrictions mean I'm usually only armed with my iPhone. For the latest trip, I had the opportunity to take my camera with me, and spent a couple of mornings down on the beach as the sun rose behind me. One eye on the exposure, one on the water. No crocodiles this time, but I did see one black-tipped reef shark swimming around in the shallows.

I went to Japan recently. I forgot to share the photo posts on G+. Here they are, all collected under a nice category so you can see them all at once.

Many years ago, I remember seeing an astronaut on a spacecraft as it flew over Australia. He referred to it as “the boring brown landmass”. It probably looks like that from 1.2 million feet up, but at 30000 feet, it takes on a character that fascinates me. The flight between Brisbane and Darwin ...

A free wallpaper for you. Enjoy.
I turn 40 this month. So what better way to celebrate than by giving you a gift? Clicking on the photo below of dusk over the Nightcliff Breakwall in Darwin will take you to the full-size jpeg file, which you can download and use as a desktop wallpaper on your computer or device. Enjoy! Click the photo to be taken to the download link

Martina & Luke's wedding. Shot at Sacred Heart Church, Redhead Beach and the Fernleigh Tunnel in Newcastle last weekend.
After a very long week of travel, I was lucky enough to make it back to my hometown of  Newcastle to attend and shoot the wedding of Luke and Martina.

So very tired.
Most of the time, this real-job-with-a-bit-of-photography-on-the-side caper is just fine. But right now, I'm just about ready to drop. Over the last five days (during which I just happen to be doing my bosses job at work), I have also shot BigSound Live, a 2-night music festival in Brisbane, ...

I'm in Tasmania. I took a couple of photos.
I'm in northern Tasmania this week. I haven't had a lot of time to do any shooting, but managed to get up to Low Head, on the coast of Bass Strait, for a while before the sun went down this evening. IMG_8916 · IMG_8913. Posted in Landscape, Seascape, Travel | 0 Comments ...
