Heartline post-hurricane update: Most of our employees and programs are back at work and resuming normal operations.

The roads in our area were fairly clear of debris and issues from the rain. The nearby river is raging but has not completely flooded the banks or damaged too many structures. Flooding still remains the biggest concern.

The children sponsored through Heartline are safe as far as we know so far, still checking on each individual family. Some have been affected by flooding. Clean water, food, and shelter (possible relocations) will be necessary for them in the short term.

Schools are officially remaining closed until next Monday, Oct. 10, including our Women's Education Center and sponsored children in Cite Soleil and Corail. From what we are hearing, Haiti's presidential election will still take place this Sunday, Oct. 9.

All of our staff and families continue to be grateful for all of your prayers throughout this trying experience, and are full of praise today. We ask and join you in praying for the other nations in the path of Hurricane Matthew.

The southern peninsula of Haiti continues to be mostly cut off and in the greatest need due to flooding rivers, destroyed roadways and bridges, wiped out homes and buildings, damaged crops, and communications interruptions. We are working with others to assess the needs and determine where we can offer the most effective assistance. Stay tuned later today for that information.

The wind and rains seem to be nearly done in our area. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers as Haiti weathered this storm. Flooding, mudslides, and damaged infrastructure will be the major concerns going forward.
