'Kids in crisis can't afford to wait until it's most convenient for us to care for them. They simply don't have that luxury. And maybe we don't have that luxury either. Perhaps the question we need to be asking ourselves over and over and over again - whether you're in the middle of it already or just now considering the possibilities of it for you and your family - is not 'Can we afford to do this?' but rather 'Can we really afford not to do this?'"

Did you know that practicing good self-care can help prevent Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) in the lives of the child(ren) in your life? Dr. Nadine Burke Harris of the Center for Youth Wellness has some great tips for parents and caregivers everywhere.

"Self care is about how we can be our best selves in order to be of support to those around us. For children to lead healthier lives, they need a healthy adult who can act as an emotional buffer to stressful or traumatic experiences. In other words, taking care of my own emotional health and well-being is one of the best investments that I can make for my kids’ health."

The Higher Education Access and Success for Homeless and Foster Youth Act of 2015,introduced by Senator Patty Murray, proposes to "alleviate a series of burdens that homeless and foster youth experience when they perform routine tasks — in Haynes-Gibson’s case, filling out forms to go to college and get financial aid — that are already considered difficult, even for young people who haven’t experienced homelessness or foster care."
