Simple rooms and rustic, no-frills cabins, plus dining overlooking the crater & a cocktail lounge.- Google
"Haven't slept here but the food was horrible."
"Pretty disappointing experience."

The history along with it's awe inspiring setting and views is all it takes to satisfy me every time I come here. Everything else that comes along with it is the cherry on top. Powerful view of Halema'uma'u Crater.

I highly recommend staying at this hotel. The beauty and awe-inspiring view of the firey crater speaks for itself. However the professionalism, attention to detail, and commitment to customer service by every one of the staff members deserves special recognition. It is world class. My family and I only stayed one night but it was a highlight of our Hawaii vacation. Both the restaurant and lounge have amazing food and drinks that taste even better seated in front of floor to ceiling windows with panoramic views of the caldera. If you're staying in Kona it is difficult to see the entire Volcanos National Park in one day due to the travel time. A night spent at Volcano House will allow you to take your time during the day and appreciate the entirely different experience after dark. This will be a highlight and a lasting memory of your trip.

Terribly disappointed with the seared ahi - omg - it was practically medium to medium well. It tried to like it anyway but just couldn't deal. Or waiter was fine however and the ribeye ordered to replace the tuna was excellent!!!! The poke tower was also very nice. Can't bash them to hard as they made good on the replacement plate fairly quick. And besides.... can't beat that view.

The food was so-so. The views are what makes this place special.

The Hotel itself, was cool but not what someone might think of as 5 star. You have to step out of your box and look at the entire picture though. If you offered me a true 5 star hotel, 2 blocks away, for free, with a $100 spending money, I would still choose the Volcano house anyday! You are sitting on the rim of an active volcano, the staff was fantastic, the ambiance was great, the lounge, the food, all good. Just remember the hotel was built in 1941 so you have a lot of history here, but not a lot of amenities, except of course a live volcano out the windows. They intentionally have no TVs, but they do encourage people to sit around the fire , and the viewing areas, talk, exchange stories and have fun. And we did all that :) I live on this island, in Kona, and trust me, I will be staying there whenever family comes to town.

We spent $100 on a dinner that should have cost $50 with $10 service. Cool experience, but go grab a drink or dessert whole enjoying the view. Not worth the dinner money.

Can't speak for the hotel, but the restaurant was bad. Most entrees were around $18. It took 20 minutes to get seated even when half the tables were vacant. They were out of multiple dishes on the (limited) menu. I ordered the "special" which was just a burger and fries. Burger came out burnt with wilted lettuce. Pretty disappointing experience. Go down the road and find something else unless you're absolutely desperate.

We did not try the hotel but the campsite. They can set a tent for you for 55 usd / night!!! No need to carry your own gear. You can enjoy the hot shower, the free hot drink in the lobby and free wifi. Breakfast (buffet... just great) for 15usd / pax. A good place to visit Volcano Park!!
