Chrome on mobile has over 800 million monthly active users.

"During its Chrome Dev Summit event, Google announced that its browser has passed 800 million monthly active users on mobile. Put another way, the number of Chrome for Android and iOS users has doubled from the 400 million figure shared just a year ago."

Today, we’re introducing a new calling experience for Hangouts on the web that loads more quickly, renders video more sharply, and streamlines the interface so you can focus less on where to click and more on what to say. We’ve been using this new calling experience at Google for a while now. It’s early days, but we hope you like it as much as we do. (Note: This is not available for Google Apps for Work customers.)

Key changes include:
 • Calls that start faster and stay crisper, with higher quality video
 • A more streamlined and immersive full-screen interface
 • A simpler way to invite friends and family to your calls

If you want to go back to the version of Hangouts you’re used to, visit http://g.co/hangouts or click the menu at the top right and choose “Original version.”

We’ll be rolling out to a small group of users starting today and expanding globally in the days ahead. Keep an eye out and tell us what you think!

Will Google Photos Disrupt Social Media As We Know It?

+Google Photos is fast becoming one of the most popular photo services out there, gaining over 100-million users in its first five months. By comparison, Yahoo's Flickr has gained about the same number of users in over a decade and has seen growth stall even with 1TB of free photo and video storage and some pretty advanced machine learning technology for recognizing the content of images.

Whereas Flickr is an actual social network, like Instagram (though the two are very, very different from one another), Google Photos isn't a social network and probably never will... but that may not stop it from becoming a major player in social media.

Snippet:

"The challenge for Google, in this case, will be to balance the value of the service for social sharing, with its primary purposes of storing, enhancing, and organizing your images and videos and letting you share these anywhere with no strings attached, i.e. without dictating where you share images or links to or requiring any setup and sign-up from recipients."
