You can say what you will about RMS and his methods, but I think his core beliefs are being vindicated at a rather alarming rate. In particular, we've pretty much lost the DRM battle across wide market segments (e.g. phones, tablets, e-readers, cars, with PC and laptop lockdown in the works), and crucially, the impact of software freedom on other freedoms has increased greatly, since we're now dependent on many of these devices in order to function in society.

Circumvention of DRM has also been outlawed in most locales - even in "liberal" Norway: A good friend of mine frequently needs to convert e-books between formats in order to make them work on his reader. He is breaking the law. If "DVD-Jon" were tried today, I think it's fair to assume that he would've been convicted.
