Here's an interesting issue: does automation support creativity in content, or hinder it?  What do copywriters and others with a creative focus think?

Any content strategists out there?
I've been thinking about writing an article for the CSF website about what a content strategist actually does on a day-to-day basis. I thought this might be a practical way of showing what we do, what tools we use, what skills we draw on, and which team members we work with.

As +Michael Andrews posted recently, we're seeing quite a few people trying to 'redefine' content strategy for their own ends. I think we're also seeing a lot of genuine confusion about what content strategists actually do compared to digital strategists or even content marketers. I hope this article would help clear up some of this confusion.

In practical terms, I'd ask content strategists to keep track of their activities for a week using a template as a guide. I'd then collate the results.

Does this sound like a good plan? If so, I'd welcome contributors and suggestions! If you'd like to contact me directly my email is hannah.adcock@gmail.com.

Wow. Check the video.

HT/ +Gabriel Smy, who said it well, "Are web designers nervous yet?"

(This might be my exit plan out of maintaining my own website.)

One thing I really like about the video... The guy speaking has a pleasant, down-to-earth voice. Doesn't sound like a voice actor or some socially inept geek who's underwear is on too tight. (Yes, I'm a consumer too, and these things influence me.)

"Deliverable overload is a situation where content professionals inundate a client’s attention span and cognitive load with a flood of deliverables. It’s when a content professional forgets that not everyone is as deep into the project as they are. "
One of our moderators, +Andrew Nhem, has a new article up at the GatherContent blog, and the overhead of 'deliverables' is indeed a potential black hole we can easily get sucked into. Nice to see this get some attention.

We've had a similar topic come up before about what is a 'deliverable' versus what's an 'artifact'. How do you handle deliverables? What do you think is essential and what can be avoided?
