We are so excited that the only U.S. exhibition of the "Costumes of Downton Abbey" will be at Winterthur, the 175 room estate of Henry Francis Dupont.  Beginning March 1, 2014 the exhibition runs
through the first week of January, 2015.  If you are a Downton Abbey fan, you won't want to miss the opportunity to see Dowager Countess' embroidered gown or Bates' valet apron.  The 7000 foot exhibition includes the magnificent jewels worn by the Crawley family as well.
Winterthur expects over 100,000 people will visit the exhibit so don't wait too long to book at Hamanassett and purchase your advance tickets at http://www.winterthurg.org/downtonabbey

February is wine & chocolate month at all the wineries who are members of the Brandywine Valley Wine Trail  in the Brandywine Valley.  All the wineries are within a 10 to 30 minute drive of Hamanassett Bed & Breakfast.  Tours are self guided so you can go to as many or as few as your schedule allows.  We have winery passports for purchase for only $20.00 per person which will allow you a tasting at each of the wineries.  Be sure to check their web site to see which wineries are hosting events throughout the month.

One of Hamanassett Bed & Breakfast's  favorite wineries in the Brandywine Valley is Vala Winery located in Avondale, Pa. just 15 minutes south of Longwood Gardens.  They put out small exceptionally fine wines each year.  I suggest a visit the weekend of February 14 for their wine, chocolates and cheese tasting.  Plus you can enjoy a piano concert by  Glenn Williams.  Seatings for these events are limited so by all means give them a call at 610-268-2702.  You can check their web site also to see other events at www.valavineyards.com.  In fact, I highly recommend signing up for their news letter.  Anthony is one funny guy!

Dilworthtown Inn is offering a wonderful fall menu as well as fall drinks such as apple-tinis, pumpkin spice martinis,  and a Maple Harvest Moon drink.  Enjoy a drink in front of their roaring fire before dining in one of their romantic fireplaces.  The Dilworthtown Inn, in the Brandywine Valley, is a short ten minute drive from Hamanassett Bed & Breakfast.

We've added our schedule for our 2014 cooking classes at Hamanassett Bed & Breakfast.  We've kept a couple of originals that have proven so popular such as our Last Dinner on the Titanic and added some classes such as an Oscar themed party and Mardi Gras.  To view the description and class schedule check out our web site.

I first stayed at Hamanassett seven nights in May 2011 with my (same-sex) partner and we felt like we had come home to welcoming relatives rather than being first-time customers patronizing a tony boutique-style historical hotel. Ashley and Glenn could not have been lovelier or friendlier. Hamanassett is an elegant step back in time. Their elegant home, estate really, is beautifully appointed with antiques collected over generations. Staying a full week allowed us a look at all facets of the operation and we had nothing but compliments- for them AND their staff. I had planned excursions to local museums ( like Winterthur ), but my partner didn’t want to leave Hamanassett, preferring to sleep in, have a leisurely breakfast ( absolutely gourmet ), rock in rockers on the porch or wander the grounds. I pondered what the best part was: gourmet chocolate chip cookies, breakfasts worthy of any discerning gourmand, the beautifully decorated suites, extensive DVD collection, free access to both Port and Sherry, or the luxurious sheet on very comfortable mattresses, rising early and reading on the patio with a bottomless coffee cup while listening to the birds singing in the country setting. I couldn’t decide. ALL OF THE ABOVE. I travel the world for my job for weeks at a time and I have stayed at some wonderful 5-star hotels and resorts, but Hamanassett is by far the best accommodation – hands down. No details have been overlooked- maps, restaurant recommendations, favorite breakfast recipes are all at the ready, along with an eagerness to delight the guests. Ashley and Glenn are truly exceptional innkeepers who work hard at maintaining both the property and their guests’ experiences. It’s the small hotel that you won’t want to leave, but when you do, you’ll be promising yourself you’ll return soon. So far, I have returned a couple of times and it only gets better with age.

I live in the neighbourhood this B&B is in, and it's a beautiful place. To the review about the owners not being pet friendly: My lab has run away a few times and more often then not they've found her and taken good care to give her back to us. If you really think that leaving your dogs to lay waste in a room because you've "protected" it, you are SADLY mistaken. Get a clue, sir.
