Reviews not a ranking factor

Have seen a fair bit of discussion about this here in the UK today. Much of it is pointless ... whether reviews are a ranking factor or not, they're always going to be important for other reasons.

For the average SMB / SME owner though the title of this article surely creates confusion as I'm not sure they'd distinguish between web search, i.e. organic, and local.

Any thoughts from the Community here?
In the hangout from last week on Google+ at the 17:27 minute mark Google's John Mueller said he doesn't think reviews left on your local business has a direct impact on your web search organic ranking

Announcing JSON-LD support for Reviews and Products structured data markup.

Along with the launch of support for JSON-LD for Reviews and Products structured data markup, we've cleaned up some of our application logic.  For example, requirements for explicit reviewed item and correct property name values are now enforced. Check your markup in the Structured Data Testing Tool ( https://developers.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool/ ) and Search Console Structured Data Dashboard ( https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/2650907 ) to see if your site is impacted by these changes.  For more information about how to format Reviews and Products markup to comply with Google's validation rules, see the documentation at https://developers.google.com/structured-data/

We hope these changes make it easier to use structured data on your side!

Primo's (Mo's to many) is the source of a lot of great memories. I grew up less than a full block away. Needless to say, I've had more than my share. If you have the opportunity to order a few hot, fresh slices, that's the way to go. Be sure to ask when the slices came out. If you're in the market for a full pie, my recommendation is square with pepperoni. You can't go wrong with a round pie either, but square is where the magic happens, particularly at the corners.

I've tried 5 of their pies: PARTY BOI, BENNETT’S BEAUTY, LEW-WOW, MR. SANCHEZ and DA DUBA. All good. Party Boi is great. Great decor too. You can tell they put in the extra effort.
