Beautifully shot video of a different kind of string quartet. "Fourplay are a one-of-a-kind string quartet. Much more of a band than a classical ensemble. They jam out songs, they have vocals, they rock." via @BoingBoing http://boingboing.net/2015/08/21/beautifully-shot-video-of-a-di.html

Highlights of OS X El Capitan. A favorite of mine, not shown here, is that the Spotlight window is now movable! I like using Spotlight's calculator feature, but in Yosemite, it's stuck in the middle of the screen, covering the numbers I'm trying to work with.

On the anniversary of D-Day, this film is especially appropriate. If you are on a modern computer, be sure to check out the interactive version.

"The Fallen of World War II is an interactive documentary that examines the human cost of the second World War and the decline in battle deaths in the years since the war. The 15-minute data visualization uses cinematic storytelling techniques to provide viewers with a fresh and dramatic perspective of a pivotal moment in history."

You would think check scanners would throw an error if they recognized two dollar amounts on one check.

First, cat cafés. Now, owl cafés.
Owl cafes seem to be popping up all around Tokyo. We previously wrote about the Fukuro no Mise cafe in Tsukishima, and now Internet host Alodia Gosiengfiao has created a wonderful video that offers...

This was written before Apple announced OS X El Capitan. Maybe they'll do it for the next release. They've got iOS for iPhone/iPad and watchOS for Apple Watch. Wouldn't MacOS for Mac be consistent? (macOS would be more consistent, but I'm not sure I like that.)

From Google's research paper on its BeyondCorp initiative: "Virtually every company today uses firewalls to enforce perimeter security. However, this security model is problematic because, when that perimeter is breached, an attacker has relatively easy access to a company's privileged intranet. As companies adopt mobile and cloud technologies, the perimeter is becoming increasingly difficult to enforce. Google is taking a different approach to network security. We are removing the requirement for a privileged intranet and moving our corporate applications to the Internet."
The new approach represents a shift away from the idea of a secured corporate network perimeter and virtual private networks.
