So you want to write a snappy App? With a lot of help, I wrote a doc to help you set up a developer workflow for writing a snappy App in Go. It covers setting up your desktop, setting up and running snappy Ubuntu Core in a VM and on a device, making a snap, and installing and testing the snap on a device.

The doc is set to public with comments open to all, so ... have at it :)

So You Want to Write a Snappy AppIntroduction If you are anything like me, you love to write apps for Ubuntu. Like the Ubuntu phone two years ago, snappy is a bit of a green field in terms of IoT related apps. If you are like me and have a Beagle Bone and a Raspberry Pi 2 and several old netbooks and laptops lying around, than snap

Making videos is hard.  It's taken a lot longer than I hoped to get this finished.  Anyway, here you go - Convergence In Action.

All the Unity & Mir code will land in the trunk once the teams are happy with the quality.  Some of it is already there.  We're still not quite satisfied with Xmir, there is more work to do around the input stack, so please bear with us while we get the bugs ironed out and then we'll get the alpha version ready for you to try on your own devices.

If you can get to MWC, come and see us in hall 8, 1F41.  If you can't, that's why we made you this video, and I'll capture a few moments from next week and share them here.

Filmed in Potatovision.

(Huge thanks to everyone who helped get us this far.  Thanks for staying up late, getting up early and working through lunchtimes to fix bugs, add features and get the demo's working.  It is enormously appreciated.  Go Ubuntu!)

XML namespaces are the simplest example I've ever seen of a reasonable idea held back by user-hostile APIs. I think XML technologies would be a lot less unpopular with developers if there were sane defaults and basic UI measures like allowing you to use the ns:name syntax used in the document rather than the {full URL}name syntax required by almost every implementation.

When the #juju developers get tired of coding in the sprint, they go to the coffee area in the hotel lobby for some casual conversations, as clearly demonstrated in this picture.

8yo girl told me I shouldn't try to explain how a clock works because she has a "bad head". Silly and life changing parenting screwup.

+Niko SchwarzPreserving the innate curiosity and learning interest of a child is one of the top responsibilities of a parent. That particular child is not used to having people taking the time to explain things to her in a friendly way, and also had the abysmal notion that no matter how much people try she won't understand even simple things. This sort of silly and major screwup is commonly created by parents reinforcing the idea the child was born faulty and won't learn, and even if it wasn't the case, fixing that is one of the most important things they can do for their child's life.
