Dropping a different kind of knowledge on you all today. Things most of us involved in the social aspect experience but few ever want to openly talk about. Theres a darker side of Ingress sociality and I think it could be beneficial to check our reality.

Op : #BucketList2015
The Agents of the #Enlightened  Faction present :
Exotic Matter Travel Guide http://goo.gl/2oz29x (Map)
See the world in a whole new light.
The coolest portals in the coolest places shown to you by the coolest people!
Agents from around the world want to show YOU their secret XM treasures and make the journey even more tempting with hundreds of fully powered portals!
So grab your suitcase, and an extra battery, it’s time to move
These are the portals you MUST hack before you kick the bucket.
Mission: To create 100 Level 8 portals in 100 cities ( At least 1 per country ) in 100 countries and highlight the one portal in each that you must visit before you die.
Ambitious idea, but the basis for an incredibly fun day of immeasurable fun. How close did we get?
Raw stats: 24,000+ standing P8s built by 2675+ agents in 139+ cities in 43 countries! Fun had: !
A bit short of the lofty goal but still way more that we could have hoped for. Look forward to more #portalgems   as more portals come online and send more XM into our world! #XMforAll

Behind the Bucket:
This effort was the brainchild of Agent @DrKaosDK, +Pascal V. - Agent - DrKaosDK, Proud Danish Enlightened team member of 2 years and Darsana Aarhus anomaly coordinator. He has enjoyed Ingress and made friends around the world.
Having participated in Op #Appleseed  http://goo.gl/BjsKd6 and Op #Darwin   http://goo.gl/hHLAh5 he was ready to step up to global Op planning.
Pascal said: “Ever since I started being part of Ops: I wanted to see how far I could bring it myself and have been having several ideas until I came up with the idea “To create 100 Level 8 portals in 100 cities in 100 countries” YES – I know it sounds crazy and so did people think when I asked – Especially the part with 100 countries.. Some would also think 100 cities in 100 countries..   Depends how you choose to think this one – What I meant was at least 1 city in every country (100) should be part of this with 100 LVL8 portals …But – I had several talks with trusted ENL agents and they said … if I believed in it – I should do it..”

And so the framework was born… a date was selected and the call for action went out across the ENL network. Finding volunteers was easy. A huge surge of effort can from +Max LaMenace, resulting in 17 French cities involved. An outsurge of support came from our local Enlightened Teams around the world. They made this happen. Pascal also wanted to thank +Kent Long for a little XM inspired creativity guidance.
Kent: “Pascal approached me with his plan. It seemed like a normal power play P8 build at first. But I rolled it around in the back of my mind. 100 P8 in 100 cities in 100 countries No big deal until you do some quick mental math. Thats like a million portals. Of course its ambitious because every country doesn't have 100 cities, but the scalability of it was sheer genius. Where is the next limit we can break? When you start planning Ingress Ops; it easy for an idea to catch on like wildfire and quickly turn into "Well why don't we just field the whole continent thing. So you've already done starbursts, layers, fielded the Northern Hemisphere, what’s next? Mass P8 events have been done, so we needed to make this special. Something in his approach about making a 100 portal farm for VISITORS to come hack lit the spark.
THAT’s what makes Ingress special. It's time to move. Out of the millions of portals, which ones should we move TO?  Who knows better that the locals? ”
We talked it out and figured locals make the best travel guides, and Enlightened have agents everywhere.
So began Enlightened Ingress Travel Guide! Portals you MUST hack before you die.

Pascal energized this brainchild into the explosion of fun you saw this week.
Agents in friendly competition to show why their city is worth visiting, and giving you a warm green Welcome.
It just felt so right that the Enlightened network made it happen. The pieces fell into place because within the Enlightened, idea is king, knowledge and truth the ultimate goal. People identified with the Op because it was about them and their territory. The portals THEY submitted and defend, not arbitrary orange cells on a map.
Despite the mass of interest, and daunting scale, ENL planners managed well because the idea fit the community so well.
So they saddled themselves with the task of how reign in the sheer volume of information of @agents, location and counts we would need to keep track of. But it meshed so smoothly because Ingress is about the portals. This op celebrates the best ones around the world.

Special thanks to the main planners, the #Lighthouse  crew, and our TRULY GLOBAL team of friends!I Hope you all enjoyed it. Stay tuned for our next adventure. Keep your eyes and mind open, Enlightenment will find you! #XmforAll

Enjoy the #Sitrep   – Video attached with memories from this big experience and you never know – As terminator said “ I’LL BE BACK “ – So stay tuned for more OP: in the future – You guys really made my day the best time ever !!    THANK YOU AGAIN.
Regards,
Agent @DrKaosDK– Pascal from Denmark

City / Country : Tromsø / Norway

North of the Arctic Circle, still without any sunlight for a few more days, eight agents of the Enlightened Tromsø took a break from the Tromsø International Film Festival and set out to make the city and some of the surrounding areas light up with green level 8 portals.

Tromsø has always been a frontier city. In the middle ages it was a fortress on the outmost rim of the Danish-Norwegian kingdom, and in modern times it has been - and still is - an important base for polar exploration and research. The city boasts many churches, fine restaurants and a lively cultural scene. Most importantly though, it boasts wondrous nature, good travel connections and sights you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere else on earth.

We could probably have thrown together 100 L8 portals in or near the city centre within a couple of hours, but we decided to take the scenic route to give ardent intel map observers a pointer to where you'll find the most spectacular sights in the vicinity of Tromsø. We went all the way out to Hillesøy and Sommarøy, popular tourist destinations for seeing northern lights in the winter and midnight sun in the summer, as well as boasting white sandy beaches and ample opportunities for fishing from land and boat. After having done this and made a few fields, we went back to make the Tromsø island itself even greener.

Unfortunately, the solar winds gave us no northern lights last night, so we've had to include an older photo as a proof of concept.

A count performed at 22.30 GMT+1 showed 120 green l8 portals (and one blue...) but we believe we had at least 140 portals at level 8 simultaneously at the most.

The city of Tromsø is situated at 69°40′58″N, and we believe this makes us the northernmost place in the world you should hack before you die.

I'm otherwise known as ZoePurls on Ravelry, Ingress (ENL) etc.

I like to know how things work and are made. This has led me, as a knitter, to learn how to spin yarn. As a watcher of people and general interest in history, to study archaeology. And as I like my computer, social networks and gadgets rather a lot, how to code.
