All graduate assistants working with the Gülen Institute are eligible for tuition remission and a monthly stipend.  New students should be aware that Assistantships cannot be awarded until acceptance into a University of Houston graduate program is official.

Research Topics
#guleninstitute #gulenmovement #fethullahgulen #hizmet
At the Gülen Institute, our research agenda seeks to explore the role civil society plays in facilitating positive social change.  This goal is accomplished through a variety of research programs: inquiry conducted directly by the Institute’s full-time fellows and graduate assistants, research projects sponsored by our annual fellowship awards, and the work of students who benefit from our graduate student scholarships.  But all of these programs give priority to the following four topics:
Poverty
Exploring how civic initiatives augment governmental efforts to alleviate and end poverty.   Analyzing the causes and consequences of poverty.  Proposing community-based solutions for poverty at the local and global levels.  Addressing the influence of poverty on #international conflicts.
3Education
Assessing the value of critical thinking and its role in public life.  Measuring the performance of both public and private #educational institutions.  Evaluating the role that education plays in the development of #democratic society internationally.  #Challenging public expectations of how education can and should be financed.

So That Others May Live: A Fethullah Gulen Reader

#guleninstitute #gulenmovement #fethullahgulen #hizmet
#BOOK- October 7, 2013 (with Blue Dome Press)
So That Others May Live: A Fethullah Gulen Reader offers a definitive compilation of Gulen’s characteristic essays and editorials.  Many of them, originally published in Turkish periodicals, are available here in English for the first time.  The rest have been carefully re-translated, providing even familiar readers with new insight into Gulen’s most remarkable writings on faith, education, and modern #civilization.
Organized thematically, this selection is meant to provide a complete portrait of Gulen as a contemporary #Muslim intellectual and a spiritual leader.  His eloquent reflections on the role of the Islamic heritage in modern society should be of interest to any religious scholar.  But as an overview, The Fethullah Gulen Reader also functions as a valuable guide to the ethical impetuses of a global social movement — one that has rooted itself in #Gulen’s signature synthesis of humanism and Islam.
So That Others May Live: A #Fethullah Gulen Reader is scheduled for publication in late Spring, 2013.

#Leadership and Spirituality in America

Hon. Vicente Fox
55th President of Mexico
EVENT REPORT – May 3, 2011
“We can only attain happiness by living for others,” declared Vicente Fox, former #President of #Mexico, at the Gülen Institute Luncheon Forum.  “This has been the guidance of my life.”  Throughout his presentation, Fox suggested that international relationships should be governed by the same ethical rules as interpersonal ones. The world community must be held accountable to the standards of service, sacrifice, respect, and cooperation that we expect from ourselves as individuals.  So it was with all the conviction of an ethical imperative that Fox called for new world institutions, new platforms for international dialogue, and a new #vision for worldwide, #multilateral #decision-making.
