Robin Williams was an iconic figure in our society who brought joy and laughter to so many. While he has earned tremendous accolades, perhaps his biggest impact may come from shedding light on the disease of depression. We have the opportunity to literally save lives by producing earnest discussion around how depression can be treated, and how long-suffering individuals can find peace, balance and happiness again.

Hi Friends,

Yesterday on the local Fox News in Seattle, I had the opportunity to discuss the spate of violence at schools in Oregon, Seattle and Santa Barbara. I did a similar piece just a few days earlier.

While I truly wish we could be discussing other issues, the reality is our children are already discussing these tragedies with their friends. It is important for us as parents and mentors to understand how best to talk with our children about these issues.

Please take a few moments to watch the two clips below as I discuss tools and techniques for parents and adults to use when discussing these sensitive issues with children of all ages.

Sending my prayers to all those affected by these tragedies.

The Isla Vista Shooting: One Flew Under the Cuckoo's Nest - Have our well-intentioned desires swung the mental health pendulum too far?
I certainly don't want to go back to the days of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, but I wonder if our well-intentioned desires have swung the mental health pendulum too far. Would Elliot Rodger or Adam Lanza have revealed their violent intentions du...

As a woman, you have family responsibilities, but really you only have control over yourself. You can guide, teach, and influence, but other people in your family may and will act outside of your control.

Picture perfect: exploring the power of photoshop.

"Instead of looking at other things and trying to aspire to look like something else, we should just be comfortable in who we are and just try to be our best selves."

Ironically, it was in seeing themselves "perfectly" that these women embraced their imperfections as an essential part of their identity....
