Feeling very strange about being rejected from the jury by prosecution.  Best guess as to why is that when asked whether I had any negative experiences with police officers I confessed that I was at the G20 protests in London where the officer killed one of the protesters with inappropriate use of force; I then followed up with the fact that the great majority of us had a pretty good experience, even if we were corralled in.

Either that, or it was the joke that followed; the gentleman informed me that there would be officers present in the courtroom, and would I find that disturbing or would it impair my judgement, I said "No, sir, I definitely like a man in uniform."

But I've been perceived as biased, and I think I find that an affront.  While I wasn't either side's perfect juror, I was at least not professing that I couldn't abide the fifth amendment, if taken (several did), that they couldn't obey a requirement to prove intent (again, several others), or that they felt they weren't sure they couldn't separate their emotions from the facts of the case.

Honest truth - every single person reading this has been either directly or indirectly touched by crime.  In all probability, every single person reading this probably also knows indirectly the story of inappropriate police actions.  A jury of your peers is going to have experienced both.

So I'm kind of horrified/saddened.  I'm also happy, of course - no criminal trial is easy to sit through, and it made it likely I would miss Burning Man (or at least part of it).

Don't fret, as an IT professional your chance of getting past jury selection were always very slim. If you can write code, you're probably too smart. Either the prosecution or the defense has a weak case, and they need as gullible, silly, easy to manipulate jurors as possible.

For those who want to skip straight to the off-script wander through the lunar backroads in #destiny  - a chance to see some of the yet-to-be-scripted levels.
I just wanted to break out and go for a wander; I guess i had expected it to warn me I was leaving the zone they wanted us locked to... I got a good long way down into the hive base.

Got a chance to play through the main story on the first level of the Moon in  +Destiny the Game - loving #destinybeta  and wishing I could get back to the moon again.
They opened the moon; I got a good afternoon of moon-based gameplay, including going well and truly off-script to see some of the content they haven't yet opened in the beta. A blind wander through the backroads of the Moon level start at minute 51; from there, we head more or less straight for the end-of-level content.

+Hank Drew I only managed to get a couple of hours in before I had to go pick up Matt, but the lunar level really is just awesome.  Spectacularly pretty.

Just as the segway revolutionized and popularized personal transportation, this will revolutionize the whole balancing-a-cube-on-its-end industry. This market has never seen innovation of any kind, and incumbent businesses in this space should quake in fear.

Buy stock now, while its cheap, because in 10 years, my friend, the other players in this space will all be out of business.

balancing isn't just for segways anymore, or how to make physics high school class interesting for the dim-witted. i somehow missed this the first time around.

How was burning man?  Was it everything you hoped it would be?  Did you get a chance to see temple burn before heading out?  Are you already on your way to China?

My local dog groomer, and they're pretty awesome. I've had pretty good luck getting last-minute grooms for my basset hound, and they're lovely people. Daisy's been very happy there, and she's never stressed when I pick her up. There's two coffee shops, and one of them does lunch; it's also across the road from the Amwell Veterinary Practice, so it's convenient to pop in and pick up stuff like food and treats. Generally awesome, good location, and worth your time.

So awesome. A totally unexpected find, a lovely, hippie-loving coffee shop with an owner that clearly loves what they do. There are coffee tables in all shapes and sizes, a rainbow diffracted on the wall, and love poems on the stairs. Also, the coffee is good. The kind of local business in a small town you imagine doesn't exist anymore.
