Happy Birthday Yellowstone National Park! Today is the 144th anniversary of the founding of this magnificent park. I'm looking forward to returning there this summer to co-lead another photography workshop for the Yellowstone Association.

My friends at ViewBug.com asked me to judge one of their photo contests. Wow, check out some of the top entries. Outstanding photography. It's going to be tough deciding the winners.

Wildhorse Lake at sunrise from the summit of Steens Mountain, eastern Oregon.

The Steens is a massive fault-block mountain rising from the sagebrush of eastern Oregon to 9,734' elevation, and then suddenly dropping on the east face to the Alvord Desert almost a mile below. On a clear day, the view extends to Idaho and Nevada. This view is looking south from the summit of Steens across the Wildhorse Lake basin, down the spine of the Pueblo Mountains to the distant Trout Creek Mountains. The Alvord Lake playa appears in the haze on the left edge of the photo.

Nikon D750, 24-85mm, Polarizer, Induro tripod, Lightroom HDR Merge, On1 Perfect Effects

The long hot summer here in the Pacific Northwest, which may be coming to an end, will likely mean fall color appearing earlier this year in Oregon and Washington. https://oregonfallfoliage.wordpress.com/…/an-introduction-…/
