My friend +Ivan Velez put on an event at the Bronx Museum of the Arts - Mr Papo's Drink and Draw.  When people dress up and pose, it's always a good idea to go and take pictures.

After a shoot with the modern camera and lenses I usually pull out my Nex-6 and some old lenses to test them out.  With the APS-C crop and the 105 lens I was pretty far away.  This was stopped down to somewhere between 5.6 and 8, and if anything it's too sharp!

This is an OK gym, but it's when they screw up that you really need to know what will happen. They messed up my billing - apparently billed the wrong account for three months, not sure whose account it was, but it wasn't mine - and then put in a charge to cover the three months they had missed. Fine. Then they charged for the next month. Fine. AND THEN whoever's account they charged objected and they got chargebacks, and based on that they terminated my membership. Right. I'm serious. Never mind that I was PAID IN FULL because of that three-months charge that went through. NEVER MIND that my bank confirmed that neither those three charges nor the chargebacks were made against my account. And now they say that even though I was paid in full, and they terminated me, that I owe for the rest of the contract. She called me a liar and was unable to do the basic math to see that I was paid up. All she could say was "chargeback! chargeback! chargeback!". I guess if you're one of the owners no one can fire you for incompetence. It's only a little bit more money to find a gym that doesn't treat customers this way.

We had a perfect summer evening for our dinner, and the service was pleasant and helpful. Nice casual atmosphere. Stuffed squash blossoms were amazing. Grouper was very good. Leg of lamb was almost unacceptably chewy although the flavor was good. Gnocci had to be sent back as inedible - overwhelming parmesan and oil taste to start and then..... nothing. Empty. Not a hint of the potato flavor that makes gnocci delightful. Replaced it with the hangar steak which was very good. We were billed full price for the hangar steak, though, which didn't seem right for a replacement for a dish that had to be sent back. NYC restaurants at this price level should be consistently good. There are too many alternatives. I won't go back.

Based on the Ken Rockwell reference, I send North Coast all my 120 for processing and scanning. The turnaround is reasonably quick but most importantly the processing and scanning is excellent. The scans are clean and with the correct contrast range - eg underexposed thin negs show up looking like underexposed thin negs, well-exposed negs scanned with all the detail in highlights and shadows that I see in the neg. I live near NYC but haven't found anyone here that compares.

I live in NYC so am pretty spoiled when it comes to tasty chinese food, and I've travelled enough to not expect to get decent food in touristy locations at reasonable prices. Someone told us Fu Lin had good food and they were right - the egg rolls and pot stickers were fresh and excellent, the salt and pepper shrimp tender and tasty, and the sizzling pepper beef spiced just right. I'll probably end up there again this week!

We had seen a listing for this in a Frommers book, got lost, and walked in, and were lucky enough to get seated. One of my favorite meals in BCN. Don't pass up the vegetable lasagna appetizer - it is not what you'd expect, it's sublime and eye-widening delicious.

I'm in north Edgewater, Pizza Chef is fast, never loses an order, and (almost always) delivers extremely tasty pizza. Once in a while it's slightly off, who knows why, totally edible still though. The rest of the time it's up there with NYC pizza.
