#Trump, the Manchurian Candidate? #USElection   Trump repeatedly says he would “get along very well with” #Putin . In return Putin has praised Trump as “bright and talented.” Trump positively glows as he repeats that “Putin likes me.”

The Trump-Russia business links beneath the surface are even more extensive, as Franklin Foer has shown in Slate. It is no surprise that his campaign quietly rolled back a call in the GOP platform for arming #Ukraine to fight back against Russian aggression, as most Republican foreign-policy experts have advocated. Trump has also said he wouldn’t necessarily come to the aid of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s ( #NATO )members if they are attacked by Russia.

“You can’t make this stuff up”: That’s how The Times’ editorial board sums up Trump’s overtures to Russian hackers.
Good morning. I’m Paul Thornton, The Times’ letters editor, and it is Saturday, July 30, 2016. We survived a week in which for a few days, Jerry Brown wasn’t California’s governor. Here’s a look back at the week in Opinion. Subscribe to the newsletter A major political party just spent an entire...

I once told a very troubled young person I knew, "Never put yourself in a position where you have to be seen as either lying or stupid."

I don't think this is a lesson Donald Trump ever learned.

Donald Trump said Thursday morning that he was only kidding when he appeared to encourage Russian intelligence agencies to find Hillary Clinton's thousands of deleted emails.

The Candidate from Putin.

"And at this most recent press conference, he indicated openness to recognizing Russia’s conquest and annexation of Crimea—and expressed opposition to maintaining sanctions against Russia. That statement would have topped the news on any day except one in which a candidate for United States president openly invited foreign espionage against his political opponent.

For a candidate with few consistent views on anything, this adds up to a very clear picture. Joined with other evidence of Trump’s deep personal business obligations to people in the Putin ruling circle, and his campaign leadership’s long-standing involvement with the former pro-Putin authoritarian leader of Ukraine, the picture becomes even more troubling—even sinister."
His call on a foreign government to hack Hillary Clinton’s email account is a complete subversion of GOP ideals.

This statement reveals this article is cheap propaganda, no need to read any further: "Russia’s conquest and annexation of Crimea"

"Get Started On Tomorrow Tonight If You Want Any Hope of Getting Ahead"
???
Yeah, right. And while you're at it, finish up yesterday this morning.
Ugh.

Every time you go through the day and wind up behind, you tell yourself “Tomorrow will be better.” Then you go to sleep with no idea how you’re going to accomplish that. If you want to break the cycle, start on tomorrow today.

The mid-life crisis is a curious phenomenon, a point at which many people feel that, despite having completed many of the things they set out to achieve in life and which they do really believe were worthwhile, they haven’t managed to assemble a sense of meaning from them and still feel an ontological emptiness. In the latest episode of the excellent podcast Philosophy Bites (subscribe if you haven’t already), philosopher Kieran Setiya details hi...

"When someone tells you that you’re only aiding the enemy by voting your conscious, let them know that the shame game won’t work here. We have poisonous rhetoric on one side and poisonous policy on the other. There is someone still in the race that actually represents my values, so I plan to vote for them. I’m not going to choose the weapon to affirm my own suicide, thank you."

Why does none of this surprise me?

Great background by the guy who literally wrote the book on Ailes.
Ailes resigned last week amid allegations of sexual harassment. Biographer Gabriel Sherman joins Fresh Air to discuss the accusations, as well as Ailes' influence on political discourse in America.
