If you are a successful technologist under 40, chances are, there is one trait that made you what you are: the ability to function despite sleep deprivation. If you are a successful technologist over 40, this will also be your undoing. 

Commit to a regimen of sleep hygiene. Set a goal of 6 to 8 hours every night and stick with it. You have the experience and wisdom now to do so and still be effective. It's not resting on your laurels so much as cultivating them.
